Edna M. Norton, 96, of Alto Pass died at 1a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the home of a son, Abe Norton, in Anna.
She was born Feb. 16, 1910, in Alto Pass, daughter of Fred A. and Emma McKinney Hartline. She and Don Carlos Norton were married Jan. 9, 1932, in Mound City, Ill. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1992.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Abram and JoAnn Norton of Anna, and their children, Cindy and husband, Gene Hammer, of Jonesboro, and their daughter, Dr. Sara Martin of Wentzville, MO.; Steve and wife, Kim Norton, of Mckinney, Texas, and their children Jared and Ethan Norton, also of McKinney; Chris and wife, Christy Norton, of Cookeville, TN, and their children, Austin and Alexa Norton, also of Cookeville,; one brother, James W. and wife Betty Hartline of Anna; and other relatives and friends, including her church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Carlos Norton; one brother, Leonard; and three sisters, Agnes, Lucille, and Imogene.
Edna was a 1930 graduate of Southern Illinois Normal University. She taught in one-room schools in Tunnel Hill, Landreth and Mount Glen, Ill., from 1930 to 1935, and in Alto Pass from 1936 until retiring in 1973.
She was a lifelong member of Alto Pass Baptist Church.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Alto Pass from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to service time at First Baptist Church in Alto Pass.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Revs. Carroll Toler and Randy Carstens officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery.
