Dr. C. E. DUNCAN--Miss Frida ARNOLD--May 20, 1913.  Married at Chicago on May 20, Dr. C.E. Duncan, aged 25, of McClure, to Miss Frida Arnold, aged 20, of California, Mo.  The doctor met his bride in Chicago by appointment on her return from Frankfort, Germany, where she had been completing her education.  After their marriage the bride left to visit her mother at California, the doctor returning to McClure.  Outside of a few friends the marriage was kept a secret.  The couple will be at home June 14.--McClure cor. Cairo Citizen.  (Note:  Several years ago an uncle of the Arnold children, Laura, Frida and Fred, their deceased father's brother, visited them here.  He was a South American rubber planter and quite wealthy.  By a family arrangement he assumed the charge of the children, placing Frida, the youngest, in school at his old home in Germany, where his mother lived, and taking Laura and Fred with him to South America.  Laura writes occasionally to her school girl friends here, and some weeks ago was traveling with a family in France.  Fred we presume is still with his uncle in South America.  Frida eventually left her hearth behind her when she departed for her father's ancestral home, as she will again reside as Mrs. Duncan near the scenes of her childhood.  Her mother, Mrs. J.R. Stevens, moved several months ago with her husband from Jonesboro to California, Mo.  (Jonesboro Gazette, Jonesboro, Illinois, 13 June 1913; transcribed and submitted by Darrel Dexter.)
