GEORGE R. PENDER



George R. Pender, 85, of Alto Pass, died at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 1988, at Union County Nursing Home in Anna.
    He was born Feb. 20, 1903, in Union County, the son of Richard and Martha Elnora Stone Pender. 
    He married Mary Edith Pender on April 5, 1926, in Murphysboro.  She preceded him in death on Dec 30, 1976.
    He is survived by three daughters, Elnora Ditto of Cobden, Helen Royer of O’Fallon, and Jhan Miller of Alto Pass; five sons, Don Pender and George Pender of Indiana, Charles Pender of Murphysboro, Art Pender of Anna, and Adrian Pender of Cobden; one sister, Myrtle King of Anna; and a close friend, Mollie Morgan.
    Forty-five grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren also survive.
    He was a member of the Baptist Church in Alto Pass and Carbondale Labor Local No. 227.
    Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7 at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Alto Pass with the Rev. Carroll Toler officiating.  Interment was in the Beech Grove Cemetery southwest of Alto Pass.
    Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Alto Pass was in charge of the arrangements.
