Carbondale, IL.--The Rev. Louis T. Petty, 84, of Carbondale died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 at Helia Healthcare in Carbondale.  
He was born Jan. 20, 1923 in Cobden, IL, son of Elmer and Essie Kendall Petty.  He and Mary Imogene Bittle were married Jan. 26, 1946 in Jonesboro, IL.
Petty was pastor at Rock Springs Baptist Church near Makanda, IL more than 30 years.  He was also pastor at Mount Pleasant (Jerusalem) Baptist Church near Pomona, IL.  He retired as a meat cutter from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.  He attended First Baptist Church in Cambria, IL.
He served in the South Pacific during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Eddie Petty of Jonesboro, Steve Petty of Carbondale, Rodney Petty of Paragould, AR, Kevin Petty of Carterville, IL; a sister, Ruth Dehart of Pasadena, TX; a brother, Floyd "Cotton" Petty of Karnak, IL; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden, IL.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 21, 2007) at the funeral home with the Revs. Bobby Norton and James Clardy officiating.  Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery with full military honors by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455.
