Pre - 1910 Probate Records Index
[ Legend ] - Abbreviations used in Index

Probates Index Number posted is a Box Number.
It appears as is if this is where the records are all stored.
Probate boxes - ; and most of this is stored in the basement.
If visiting the courthouse in person, then to view the contents;
they must be requested in advance; so that that can be brought up
from the basement and be available on the day of your arrival.

My understanding is that at the present, you can request photocopies
of the contents of a Probate Box by mail, but that is what you get
and pay for : Photocopies of everything in that particular box.
This could run into a lot or very little.
Of course, if there is a lot in the box, it could become rather expensive.

The address :
Washington County Courthouse
245 North Kaskaskia
Nashville, IL 62263
618-327-4800

Information that was received from a
researcher in June, 2003 :

It is the CIRCUIT CLERK that you need to contact for these.

The old records are getting brittle and more and
more people are coming in to handle them.
The Clerk is having the old records microfilmed by
the state and the originals will be housed in the ARCHIVES,
where they can be properly maintained.

The COST is $1 per page to copy and the Clerk will do the copying.
