George B. Chorpenning

George B. McClellan Chorpenning was born in Pennsylvania Sept. 8, 1861, and died at his home near Oakdale March 1, 1919, at the age of 57 years, 5 months and 28 days. He was married to Cora B. Logan in Coulterville, Ill., Feb. 28, 1889. To this union eight children were born, one dying in infancy. He with his father and mother came to Coulterville when a small boy, having spent most of his life in Randolph and Perry counties. While he has been failing in health for some time, he was only confined to his room a short while before the end came. He bore his suffering with patience. The deceased leaves to mourn his loss a loving wife, seven children--James of near Oakdale, Reuben and Mrs. Harry Anderson both of Washington, Iowa, and Ralph, Earl, Melvin and Russel at home, two grandchildren, one sister and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 at Oak Grove church conducted by Rev. W.O. Ferguson. A large assembly of friends and neighbors gathered to honor the deceased and to express their sympathy for the bereaved family.

Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
The falling of a tear.
The upward glancing of an eye,
When none but God can hear.
