When at the outbreak of the Civil War President Lincoln called for troops Mr. Elkendier enlisted and served four years in Co. E, 2nd Ill. Cavalry. He was a brave soldier, a good citizen and helpful neighbor, whose death is deplored by all, who knew him. The funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the house and then in the Evangelical church, Rev. C.L. Langerhans officiating. Interment was made in the adjacent cemetery. The Nashville G.A.R. Post, of which deceased was a member, attended and paid tribute to their departed comrade.
