Sheriff Chas. Gerstkemper died at his home in Nashville on Oct. 16, 1886, of jaundice, at
the age of 46 years, 1 month and 8 days. He was born in Germany and came to this
country, settling in North Prairie. He enlisted in Co. E, 10th Missouri volunteers, and
served over three years. He was wounded in the battle of Jackson, Miss., was discharged
and was married to Miss Minnie Rabenneck in 1867. He left a widow and four children.
