Soldier and Circuit Rider

Captain James Benson Logan was born in Tennessee, Feb. 20, 1829, and died at Bluford,
Illinois, Jan. 22, 1913. In youth he came with his parents to Nashville, Ill., where much of
his life was spent. He served as a private soldier in the Mexican war and as a captain in
the Civil war and was a brave and faithful soldier in both wars.

Much of his early life he passed as a circuit rider in Washington and Jefferson counties.
In he year 1874 he united with the S.D. Adventist church at Bluford, Ill., and when that
church disbanded, he never united with any other, but still held the same faith. He was a
constant Bible student and in his last moments expressed a strong belief in the second
coming of Christ, the reward of the Saints and the destruction of the wicked.

He was 83 years, 11 months and 2 days old at the time of his death. He leaves a wife and
three sons and five daughters, besides a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his
death.
