N. F. Jones
Newton Franklin Jones, a well known insurance and pension agent of Nashville, passed away Friday, Dec. 26, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G.F. Hillman, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, aged 77 years, 8 months and 26 days. His body was brought to this city Monday night and was taken to Hahne's undertaking establishment, from where all that was earthly of Mr. Jones was conveyed to the Masonic cemetery Tuesday at one o'clock where interment was made. Rev. Otto Horsley, pastor of the M.E. church, had charge of the service. Rev. S.P. Groves made an address and Commander T.L. Reuter of the local G.A.R. Post delivered a eulogy over the body of the departed comrade and the Masonic lodge held its impressive ritualistic service. The pallbearers were: P. Ziegel, H.A. Reither, Chas. Lutz, M.D. Smith, F. H. Fiene and H.?. Schmidt. Mr. Jones was born March 30, 1842, at Benton, Ky., and was on April 15, 1867, united in marriage with Miss Annie McElrath, who preceded him to the Great Beyond June 26, 1906. Mr. Jones was a member of Co. A, 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry during the Civil War and has always been an active member and officer of the Nashville G.A.R. Post. During the many years of his residence in Nashville, Mr. Jones was agent for numerous insurance companies and also pension agent for the county. He retired from active business life May 1 on account of infirmities of age and in November left this city in company of his daughters and went to Oklahoma City where he has been tenderly cared for in his daughter's home. Deceased was also prominent in the affairs of the M.E. church and a member of the Masonic and K. of P. lodges. Those left to mourn his loss are: Two sons, O. Clyde and Norphlet Jones; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Hillman, Misses Ethel and Bema Jones, all of Oklahoma City, also three sisters, Mrs. L.J. Maxwell, Mrs. Mollie Spann and Miss Julia Jones.
