Moses Keady, Oakdale Veteran, Mustered Out
Moses Keady When he was two years old his parents, Moses and Jane Norris Keady, removed to Taylorsville, Muskingum County, Ohio. Six years later the family came to Illinois, settling on a farm near Oakdale, Washington county. At the outbreak of the Civil War, moved by the spirit of patriotism, he volunteered as a soldier in defense of the Union and enlisted under Capt. Todd as a member of the 10th Missouri Infantry on August 8, 1861. With his company he was engaged in the battles of Iuka, Corinth, Raymond, Champion Hill and Vicksburg. Most of his life was spent in the community of Oakdale where he was well known and respected as a good citizen and kind friend and neighbor, doing many deeds of charity and helpfulness. His wife and three children, Elmer, Phebe and Mrs. Lulu Tibby, preceded him in death. Three sons survive to mourn his loss--S.R. of Wakeeney, Kansas, James B. of Blue Mound, Kansas; and M.N. of Kansas City, Mo. Two sisters, Mrs. Mary A. Torrens of Oakdale and Mrs. Martha J.
