Gen. J. C. Kennedy
General John C. Kennedy died at his home in Denver, Col., on a Sabbath morning and was buried on the following afternoon. His sister, Mrs. Wm. Auld of Oakdale, left on Monday evening for Denver to be present at the funeral. He leaves a loving wife and three sons and also a daughter in Alaska, and a host of friends in Oakdale and Coulterville as well as in Denver to mourn his departure. He was an elder in the First United Presbyterian Church in Denver and always stood ready to welcome the stranger to a place in his church. He was a friend to any one who sought his service. General Kenedy [sic] was one of the soldiers who left Oakdale and joined Rev. Todd's Company at the time of the Civil War. After returning from the War he went into the milling business in Oakdale, and then later into the coal mining business in Coulterville, thence he moved to St. Louis and then finally to Denver about 40 years ago, being at the time of his death about 76 years of age. He at one time served as adjutant general of Colorado. -- Coulterville Republican
