FREDERICK LESEMAN

Frederick Leseman died at his home in this city last Saturday morning at 11 o'clock.
For a number of years he had been in declining health but had been confined to his room but a few days before his death.

Mr. Leseman was one of our county's earliest settlers, having located in North Prairie in the year 1842 and during his long residence here followed a most upright life and was highly honored and respected by all of his large circle of acquaintances.

Deceased was born in Bergkirchen, Westphalen, Germany on June 9, 1839, being 64 years, 4 months and 8 days of age at the time of his death.

In 1843 he came to America with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hy Leseman, landing at New Orleans and immediately came to this county and settled in North Prairie. In 1861 he was married to Eliza Grote. Three children were born to them his wife and one child preceding the father in death.
May 7, 1868 he was united in marriage with Miss Matilda Poehler; this union was blessed with six children, five of whom with the mother survive him. Since coming to this country Mr. Leseman had spent most of his life in this county and city. In 1873 he went to Colorado for the benefit of his health and remained until 1876 when he returned to this city. He also resided in Beaucoup for a short time.

The funeral services were held at the residence and at the German M. E. church, of which deceased has long been a member, Monday afternoon.
Rev. Pannwit officiated.
The interment was made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.

The services were atteded by many friends. Mr. Leseman is survived by the following children:
Mrs. Fred Hoffman, Mrs. Amelia Lyons, Rev. Louis Leseman, Dr. P. B. Leseman, Dr. Sam Leseman, Fred Leseman and Miss Tillie Leseman.
