Mrs. Alvina GARLING, 87, of Covington Township succumbed
at the Washington County Hospital; Nashville, IL at 9:30 p.m.
Saturday from the effects of a stroke suffered on May 12.
She is the widow of Martin F. GARLING. She was born in
Covington Township, Washington Co., IL on 6 Jan 1879.
Her parents were Fred and Louise BACKS, nee MARTELSMEYER.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
She married Martin F. GARLING at the Olive Branch Lutheran
Church, Okawville, IL on October 20, 1904 and the couple
farmed in that area for many years. Mr. GARLING preceded
her in death on Oct 30, 1950. Survivors include two daughters;
Mrs. Florence [Gustav] KASTEN of Hoyleton, IL and Mrs. Clara
(Harold) DAUM of Okawville; one son William GARLING of
Okawville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren
other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held
at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, 24 May 1966 at the Olive
Branch Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard NELSON officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were the following neighbors of the deceased:
Walter HOESTER [??], Grover ISRINGHAUS, Orvie ISRINGHAUS,
Elmer RENNEGARBE, William BENING, Albert SUEDMEYER.
The Rixmann Funeral Home of Okawville was in charge of
arrangements.
