MRS. HENRY KURTZ [ANNA NOBE]

Mrs. Henry KURTZ, mother of Louis KURTZ of Nashville, died
Thursday 30 Dec 1943 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henriette
[Edward] BRUEGEGMAN, at Carlyle, IL. She had reached the advanced
age of 96 years and 5 months. She was born in Baltimore, MD on
30 July 1847 and married Henry KURTZ SR on 23 Nov 1865.
This union was blessed with eight children, of whom two died in
infancy and two later in life. One son Henry W. E. KURTZ, died
7 Nov 1943. One daughter Mrs. Emma Marie Wilke died 24 Feb 1905.
Her husband died 17 Aug 1921, and four children survive as follows:
Mrs. Mary [Louis] BACKS of Okawville, IL; Mrs. Louise [William] BACKS
of Sedalia, MO; Mrs. Hennriette [Edward] BRUEGGEMAN of Carlyle
and Louis KURTZ of Nashville, IL. Also two son-in-laws; two daughter-
in-laws, ten grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
One grandson, Wilbert KURTZ, is in training at Great Lakes, IL.
Funeral services were held Sunday, 2 Jan 1944 in the Olive Branch Lutheran.
church with Rev. John HESEMAN officiating.
Burial took place in the Olive Branch Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Henry WEEKE, Fred SCHILLING, William SCHILLING,
Theo. GARLING, Theo LEHDE and Art WEIHE. Those attending the services
from a distance were; Mrs. Emil BRAUER and daughter of Stover, MO;
Mr. and Mrs. Art HORSTMAN and son Earl; Mr. and Mrs. Richard BACKS of
Pine Lawn, MO, Mrs. R. F. KELLY and children, Vivian Lee, Adrian,
Helen Jane and Harrison Scott, all of Mapelwood, MO.

HENRY KURTZ SR.

Henry KURTZ was born in Hanover, Germany 21 Feb 1844. At the
age of eleven years he immigrated to America and resided in
Venedy, IL. In his youth he lived a number of years in St. Louis.
In the year of 1865 Nov 23, he was married to Miss Anna NOBE.
REV. BAUMGAERTNER performed the ceremony in Venedy.
They made their home near Covington, IL and with the exception
of a few years, made this their permanent home. To this union
were born eight children, three sons and five daughters. One
son and one daughter died in their infancy and in later years
another daughter, Mrs. Emma Marie Wilke passed away 24 Feb 1905.
His wife, Mrs. Anna KURTZ, the daughters, Mrs. Mary [Louis] BACKS
of Covington; Mrs. Louise [William] BACKS of Missouri, Mrs.
Henrietta [Edward] BRUEGGEMAN of Carlyle, IL; two sons Louis
and Henry KURTZ; one brother, three son-in-laws, two daughter-
in-laws, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law and eleven
grandchildren. He died Wednesday morning 17 Aug 1921 at the
age of 77 years, 5 months and 26 days.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Oelzweig
Lutheran Church and burial took place in the nearby cemetery.

HENRY KURTZ, JR.

Funeral services will be held this Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.,
at the Olive Branch Lutheran Church at Frogtown, for Henry KURTZ.
He was a well-known farmer of the Okawville Community.
He died at 9:05 p.m. Sunday night, 7 November 1943, at St. Elizabeth
Hospital in Belleville. Mr. KURTZ had been a hospital patient for
several weeks having gone to St. Elizabeth for medical attention when
his condition grew alarming. Despite the best of medical attention he
failed to rally.

His pastor, Rev. J. HESEMAN will officiate at the last rites and
interment will be in the Olive Branch Lutheran Cemetery.

He had attained the age of 60 years, 3 months and 15 days.
Henry KURTZ was born in Covington township on 22 July 1883,
a son of the late Henry and Anna KURTZ [nee NOBE], the latter of
whom still survives him. He was confirmed at Olive Branch Lutheran
Church and on 19 September 1906 was married to Miss Anna TEMPELMEIER
by Rev. Emil KOCH. One son, Monroe, was born to this union.

Mourning the deceased is his sorrowing wife, Anna; his aged mother,
Mrs. Anna KURTZ, aged 96; his son, Monroe; one brother,
Louis KURTZ of Nashville; three sisters, Mrs. Louis [Mary] BACKS of
Okawville; Mrs. William [Louisa] BACKS of Sedalia, MO and
Mrs. Edward [Henriette] BRUEGGEMAN of Carlyle.
He also leaves 9 brother-in-laws and 6 sister-in-laws and various
other relatives and friends.

LOUIS KURTZ

Louis KURTZ died at his home on South Mill Street, Wednesday morning,
15 May 1946 at 8 o'clock after a long illness. He had reached the
age of 69 years, 6 months and 10 days. A well-known farmer of Covington
township, he retired from farming in August 1934, and moved to
Nashville where he established a home on South Mill Street.
For some time he worked at Wilson's feed store and the Gamble store
but since November 1944, had been confined to his home when he
fractured his hip. He suffered from arthritis and spent many weeks
in hospitals in Breese, Centralia and St. Louis.
For the past several months he had been at his home where he improved
but recently his condition grew worse and he was confined to his bed
at the time of his death.

Herman Henry "Louis" KURTZ, son of the late Henry KURTZ and his wife,
Anna nee: NOBE, was born in Okawville on 5 November 1878.
The Rev. F. WOEBRECHT baptized him on 24 November 1878.
He received his elementary education at the Olive Branch Lutheran
School near Okawville and was confirmed 10 April 1892,
by Rev. George MERGER.

He was married to Emma TEMME on 3 July 1903, the Rev. E. KOCK
performing the ceremony.
This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Emma; one daughter, Mrs. Richard [Adella]
KELLEY of St. Louis; one son Wilber of Carlyle; three sisters,
Mrs. Mary [Louis] BACKS of Okawville; Mrs. Louisa [William] BACKS
of Sedalia, MO; and Mrs. Henrietta [Edward] BRUEGGEMAN of Carlyle;
six brother-in-laws; five sister-in-laws; one son-in-law; one
daughter-in-law and nine grandchildren.
One son, Harold preceded his father in death.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran
Church at 2 o'clock with Rev. C. F. ROHLOFF Officiating.
C. Russell HILEMAN is in charge. Pallbearers will be:
Martin GUTZER, John OSIEK, Walter STRUEVER, Melvin HARRE,
Richard SMITH and William WEINER.
