Louis Raymond
Louis Raymond, a veteran of the Civil War and a former resident of Nashville, whose demise was mentioned in the last issue, joined the Silent Army Tuesday, May 28. Mr. Raymond, who years ago removed to St. Louis, fell and fractured his hip April 18, which resulted in his death. He was taken to a sanitarium, but to no avail. He became unconscious Friday, May 24, and suffered a parlytic [sic] stroke Sunday, remaining in a comatose condition until the end. Deceased was born in Kaskaskia, Ill., 81 years ago. He was joined in wedlock with Mrs. Margaret Lincoln, who preceded him in death. Later he married Mrs. Lydia Fox, who also departed this life. When secession threatened the Union Mr. Raymond joined the colors and served in Twelfth Illinois Volunteers. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Jacob Schwimmer of St. Louis, four stepsons, Wm. Lincoln and Louis, John and Wm. Fox and two step-daughters, Mrs. Wm. Lincoln of here and Mrs. Rosa Akins of East St. Louis, and six grandchildren. Deceased confessed the Catholic faith and mass will be read in the Sacred Heart church in St. Louis next Sunday. The body was brought here for burial and interment was made Memorial Day in the Masonic cemetery where the sleeping soldier awaits the reveille of Resurrection Morn. The pallbearers were Tom Krughoff, Ren Parks, Joe Hylla and John Klamm. |
