Obituary of William Riechman
Civil War Veteran

Mustered Out

William Riechman died Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at his home near Cordes at
the age of 70 years, 10 months and 10 days. Deceased was born at Hartum, Prussia,
Germany, Oct. 28, 1841, and as a youth of 17 years came to America, settling in this
country. In 1864 he enlisted as a soldier in the Union army, serving under Capt. Berz in
Co. C, 49th Ill. Vol. Inf. Regt., and at the close of the Civil War was honorably
discharged, being mustered out Sept. 7, 1865. In 1866 he was married to Christiana
Hartman and seven children were born to this union, one of whom preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his loss his widow and six children: William, Chris, John, George,
Mrs. Anna Bruhn and Miss Mary Riechman, also two grandchildren. Mr. Riechman was
a loving husband and father, a good citizen and faithful member of St. John's
congregation at Cordes. He served his church as elder and Sunday school teacher.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon, Rev. J.W. Gaebe of Mehlville, Mo., officiating.
The veteran was laid to rest in Evangelical cemetery at Cordes. The following comrades
served as pallbearers: H.F. Reuter, T.L. Reuter, Chas. Schlinger, Hy. Krueger, N.F. Jones
and J.F. Hoffman. Many friends from here and vicinity attended the funeral.
