John C. Tebo
John Charles Tebo, passed away at his home in Okawville Friday morning, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 29 days. Mr. Tebo was a son of Mike and Lucinda Tebo and was born in Okawville township March 8, 1842, and died near the place of his birth. He lived his entire lifetime with the exception of the time spent in the service of his country, in Okawville township. He was married to Ruth Griffen Oct. 9, 1864. To this union four children were born, three of whom died in infancy, the fourth, Harriet Ellis, now Mrs. (Dr.) H.L. Kampen of Monmouth, who together with the widow, are left to mourn his death. The other immediate members of his family are two brothers, A.E. and M.O. Tebo, both living in Texas, and one sister, who died many years ago. He enlisted in the Union Army in August, 1861, serving three years and re-enlisted in February, 1864, f or another year, thus serving four years in the service of his country during the Civil War. He was converted and joined the M.E. church early in life and has ever remained a consistent and earnest worker in the cause of religion. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the M.E. church, Rev. L. R. Mauk having charge. The congregation was a large one, many not being able to get into the church. Interment was made in the Okawville cemetery.
