Todd as a member of the 10th Missouri Infantry on August 8, 1861. With his company he was engaged in the battles of Iuka, Corinth, Raymond, Champion Hill and Vicksburg. Information furnished by : Mike Jones Samuel Keady (Moses Keady's brother) was in the 1910 Malibu, Los Angeles, California, census. He was an "inmate" (today, patient or resident) of the Pacific Branch, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. He was born about 1842 in Ohio and was married. In the 1920 census, there are two slightly different listings for Samuel Keady in the San Diego, California, census. One has him 77 and now widowed, with Ohio his place of birth. The other shows him in Los Angeles Township at the National Military Home (same thing as the “home” mentioned above), age 78. Here, though, his place of birth was Illinois. I believe what's going on here is that he was on "furlough" and probably had a home or apartment, plus a residence at the Military Home. My guess is someone else--a staff person--gave the census information and, because Samuel served from Illinois, gave Illinois as his residence. I don't know this for a fact, obviously. In any event, he was enumerated twice.

Kelso, civil war veteran is the same person who later achieved a bit of fame in the "Bloody Stevens" county seat wars in Hugoton, Stevens County, Kansas. He was an elected official of Hugoton during the war and later served as county Sheriff from 1889-1902 following James A. Ridpath. For some unknown reason James W. Kelso is buried in the Ridpath family plot near James A. Ridpath. He is in the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton, Kansas. Some records state that he died in Dodge City, Kansas in 1935.
