Alvin Reinhardt
      Alvin Fred Reinhardt, 88, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born July 19, 1920, in Covington, Ill., died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Rosewood Care Center, Swansea, Ill.
 
 
      Alvin was a United States Army veteran that served in World War II. He retired after 42 years of service in 1982 from Mixon Buick, formerly in East St. Louis, Ill. Alvin was also a proud, lifetime member of the VFW in Fairview Heights, Ill., and he loved to dance and cook.
 
      He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederic and Emma, nee Kraus, Reinhardt; his wife, Geraldine Reinhardt; a brother, Harold Reinhardt; a sister, Verdell (Henry) Harre; and a brother-in-law, Ray Dinkleman.
 
      Surviving are his loving children, JoAnn (Lee) Rankin of Salem, Va., Frederic Reinhardt of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Donna (Brian) Sikes of Edwardsville, Ill.; grandchildren, James (Kim) Rankin of Chicago, Ill., Jennifer Rankin of Washington D.C., and Ian and Zoe Sikes of Edwardsville, Ill.; a loving and special companion of 24 years, Shirley Schmieder; a brother, Arvie (Elsie) Reinhardt of Breese, Ill.; a sister, Vera Dinkleman of Nashville, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Erna Reinhardt of Belleville, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
      Memorials may be made to the VFW in Fairview Heights, Ill., or to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Belleville, Ill.
