MRS. SILAS JONES, after a long illness with cancer, died last week, at her home. Rev. Kittle preached the funeral at her house, and then the remains was taken to the cemetery east of the park at Orchardville, and buried.

Died about 1:30 Sunday afternoon after an illness of several months with dropsy and enlargement of the liver. She was buried in Opydyke, Tuesday. The Rebecca’s conducted their services at the home Monday afternoon while the M. P. L. held theirs at the cemetery. The funeral service was conducted by Elder W. A. Mayberry. None of Mrs. Jones sons reached here before her death. Walter and Jacob of Paxton and Guy of Chicago came Sunday night and Carl arrived from Prophetstown Monday night.

ELLA M. (OMAR) JONES WAYNE NATIVE DIES FROM GUNSHOT
Ella M. Jones, 83, of Mt. Vernon, a native of Wayne County, died at 9:35 a.m. Friday at her home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was a former employee of the Elgin State Hospital. Rites Conducted Services were conducted at 10:30 a.m,. Monday (today) at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with burial in the Bailey Cemetery near Wayne City. Mrs. Jones was born in Wayne County June 3, 1896, the daughter of John and Emma (Bennett) Omar. She was married in Johnsonville Jan. 3, 1914 to Otta L. Jones Mrs. Jones was a member of the Oak Grove General Baptist church, the Varnell Rebekah Lodge and the Eastern Star. Surviving are her husband and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

SUDDEN DEATH OF SILAS D. JONES
WELL KNOWN ORCHARD TOWNSHIP MAN DIED OF APOPLEXY AT SON'S HOME IN CHASE
Silas D. Jones, one of Orchard Township's oldest citizens died at Cisne, Illinois at the home of his son Robert S. Jones, Monday afternoon May 7th. Mr. Jones, who was making his home with his son Eph near Zenith, drove down to Cisne Sunday afternoon to visit for a time with his son Robert and family. He seemed in his usual health and arose early Monday morning and even accompanied his little grandson up town in the morning. He ate a hearty dinner and laid down for his afternoon rest as was his custom, fell asleep and never awoke. Mrs. Jones became alarmed at his prolonged sleep and went up to see about him and found him dead. The coroner was called and an inquest held, and it was decided his death was due to apoplexy.
SILAS D. JONES
Was born August 25th. 1840, at Marengo, Indiana; died May 7, 1923 at Cisne, Illinois. He was first married to Mary Ferguson. To this union four children were born, John W. William D. Alfred B. and Belle. The wife died in 1869 and in January 20, 1871 he again united in marriage to Sarah A Boyd who died January 18, 1905. To this union nine children were born, three of whom died in infancy. The surviving are Laura A. Little, May Forth, Sintha Scott, Elijah Jones, Eph Jones and Robert S. Jones. S. D. Jones came to Illinois with his father in 1861 and settled in Orchard Township, 2 1/2 miles southeast of Orchardville. He lived on the same farm for fifty years. Until a few years ago he was actively engaged as a blacksmith. A little more than a year ago he was obliged to leave his home and go to live among the children. He made his home with his son Eph Jones. The father of the deceased was a Christian minister and the deceased always held to that belief. Mr. Jones leaves to mourn his loss seven children, twenty-six living grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

ISAAC N. JONES, WAYNE CITY, DIES

Isaac N. (Squire) Jones, 82, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Grover Smith, six miles south of Wayne City, Monday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at Olive Branch Church at 2 p.m. and burial will follow in the Opdyke Cemetery.
Mr. Jones a retired farmer and Carpenter, spent most of his life in the vicinity of Wayne City. The body will be brought to his daughter’s home where friends may call up until the time of the funeral hour. Mr. Jones is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Grover Smith of Wayne City and Mrs. Charles Austin of Harvey, ILL.; and four sons Guy of Harvey, ILL. Jake of Chicago, Carl of Herrick, ILL and Herman who is somewhere oversees with the U. S. Army.

SARAH JONES, 83, OF JOHNSONVILLE, DIES (Oct. 17, 1946 Taylorsville #37390)
Mrs. Sarah Ellen Jones, 83, widow of Tillman Jones, died last Thursday at 1:30 p.m., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Zella Adams, in Taylorville. Mrs. Jones was a resident of Johnsonville. Surviving are two sons, Wesley and Otis Jones, both of Mt. Vernon, and two daughters, Mrs. Ollie Owens of Fairfield and Mrs. Adams. The remains were taken to Combs Funeral Home in Wayne City and prepared for burial. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Oak Grove church near Johnsonville, with Rev. Austin Donoho in charge. Burial was in Bailey cemetery.

GRACE MAE JONES (NEE SEFRIED)
Of South Holland, Illinois,
was born June 15, 1898, on a farm south of Wayne City, Illinois. Her parents
were Mary Ann and John D. Sefried. On March 25, 1915 she married Guy Wilson
Jones, also from the same area and an employee of the Illinois Central
Railroad and they lived in Chicago for many years. On Thanksgiving day of 1935,
they moved to 14820 Perry Avenue, Harvey Illinois. When Guy retired they moved
back to southern Illinois (Belle Prairie). When Guy Jones died in December of
1962, Grace May Jones moved to Homewood, Illinois where she resided with her
eldest daughter Lorene, and her husband Thomas Ertle. The last eight years she
lived with her youngest daughter Florence and her husband Laurence Bultman in
South Holland, Illinois. Grace May Jones passed away at 2:52 p.m. on August 15,
1987 in St. James Hospital, Chicago Heights, Illinois, after a three month
illness. She was 89 years old. She is survived by her daughters Zelma Lorene
Ertl of Mesa, Az. and Florence Mae Bultman of South Holland, IL.; four
grandchildren, Theresa Grace Hamilton of Wood Dale IL., Carol Louise Moniak of
Mesa, Az., Laurence Bultman II of South Holland and Jeffrey Lynn Bultman of
Homewood, Il.; four great-grandchildren; Deanna and Thomas Monial and Jennifer
and Joanna Hamilton. There are many nieces and nephews also surviving. She was
preceded in death by her husband Guy Wilson Jones; a half brother, Charles
Bayles; and three brothers William, Bonham and Leslie. She waked Monday August
17, 1987 at Drumm Funeral Home 1200 East 162nd Street in South Holland, Tuesday

88 year old Wayne City resident, Opal Johnson died at 8:20 Monday morning Jan. 27, 2003 at Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon. Surviving are two sons, Roger of Wayne City and Gene of Keens, a daughter, Mary Smith of Fairfield; two brothers, Lawrence Talbert of Lincoln, Il. And Wesley Talbert of Wayne City; a sister Nola Griffith of Wayne City; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Opal Johnson will be 10:30 Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City with burial in Thomason Cemetery. Funeral Home in Wayne City Illinois. Funeral services were held from the Richardson Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Monroe, a Baptist minister presiding. Internment was at Thomason Cemetery just west of Wayne City, Illinois

SARAH JONES, 83, OF JOHNSONVILLE, DIES

92-year-old Fairfield resident, Flossie Johnson died at 2:10 Wednesday afternoon, December 7, 2005 at Way-Fair in Fairfield.
Survivors include daughters, Frances Pottorff and Joyce Foister of Fairfield and Virginia Grimes of Parkhurst, FL; a son, Leroy Griffith of Fayetteville , NC; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Flossie Johnson will be 10:30 Monday morning, December 12, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 til 8 Sunday evening, December 11, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield.
R. A. JENKINS, farmer, P.O. Wayne City. This gentleman, who is a resident of that part of Four Mile Township which is known as "Frog Island", was born February 15, 1843, in Wayne County, Ill. His father, R. F. Jenkins, was a native of Pennsylvania and came to Wayne County, Ill., when about twelve years old. Here he farmed, and finally died in February, 1877. The mother of our subject, Sarah (Bothwell) Jenkins, is a native of Tennessee. She is yet living, and is the mother of twelve children, of whom eight are now living. She is an esteemed lady, the daughter of James Bothwell, a farmer by occupation. Our subject received a limited school education in this county, and was married here September 25, 1863, to Miss Louisa Harshberger, born August 27, 1842, in Illinois. She is a daughter of William and Emily (Spouse) Harshberger. Eight children came to bless this happy union --- Mara A. (wife of John Graham), Sarah Williams, Richard, Lilie, Victoria, Saratany and Gregg. Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins are members of the Missionary Baptist Church, and highly esteemed members of society in general. He has served his township in the capacity of Commissioner of Highways and School Director. Politically, our subject is inclined to the Democratic party. His fine farm of 160 acres is kept in a high state of cultivation, and from year to year he adds a few new improvements, indicating the progressive farmer.
NOTE: Should be Emily BROWN ; William Harshbarger married Emily Brown her step-fathers name was Sprouse, her real father died when she was young.
