(daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Clyde Young)

Crushed between truck and shed at home south

(photo)
Crushing Injuries
Mrs. Read, widow of the late Frank Read and a daughter-in-law of the Charles Reads, South
West -Seventh Street, sustained crushing injuries when caught between a shed corn crib and a truck driven by her 18 year old son, Howard. Taken to the hospital following the accident, Mrs. Read underwent two major operations, one for removal of a ruptured spleen and one Sunday morning for trachea (breathing) operation. She suffered internal bleeding, crushed pelvic and broken ribs.
Heard Mother Scream
The son was backing the truck, loaded with corn, back toward the shed crib, and  did not know that his mother was standing by the shed until he heard her scream. Funeral services will be at Nale's Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial at Bovee Cemetery.
Coroner McNeill will hold an inquest. Mrs. Read and family had lived on the Hal Morlan
place south of Boyleston 20 years. She was a native of the Barnhill vicinity, and born 8 June 1916, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Young. Mrs. Read was a member of the New Hope General Baptist church and also attended Richland church, near her home. She was married to Frank Read with three children born to this union.  Her husband died in 1959, and
she was also preceded in death by her father.

Surviving are her three children, Herschel, 21 yrs, in school at Lexington, KY;  Howard, 18 yrs, and Marjorie, 15 yrs, at home;  her mother, Mrs. Clyde Young, of Barnhill;  and four brothers, Vernon and Carl Young, of Fairfield; Marion Young, of Clay City; and Delbert Young of Barnhill.

RULE READ DEATH WAS '' ACCIDENTAL''
Son Tells Coroner's Jury of Death Of His Mother In
Farm Accident

A coroner's jury ruled Mrs. Frank Read, Route 1, Fairfield, died an " accidental death" following the inquest held here Monday night. Coroner Robert McNeill presented only one witness, Mrs. Read's 18-year-old son, Howard, who was driving the truck which crushed his mother. Mrs. Read died at Memorial hospital Monday morning, five days after the accident at their farm home south of Boyleston.
Returned with Corn
The son testified that he had brought his truckload of corn to the elevator here Wednesday evening but had to return home with it after finding the elevator closed. Arriving back at the farm barn lot, he asked his mother to open a door to the corn crib.  The son believed his mother had done this task and had gotten out of the way.  He started backing the truck and then heard her scream.  He jumped from the truck to find her pinned between it and the crib.  He pulled the truck away and mother fell limp to the ground. Summoning his sister, Marjorie, the two put their mother in the family auto and rushed her to memorial hospital.
Rear View Mirror Broken
Howard, the son, told the jury that the truck's rear view mirror was broken and that he had not been able to see his mother directly back of the truck. Members of the jury were George McDannel, foreman, Allen Baumann, Ed Williams, Mike French, Jere Borders and Marshall McGehee. The inquest was held at Nale's Funeral Home.
