Against                                Upon a Petition for a Partition of Lands

The Heirs of Joseph Martin Dec'd.

The commissioners appointed at the April term of this court in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and

twenty five to make a division of the lands of Joseph Martin dec'd, among the several heirs. Returned in court a return

of their proceedings on the following words and figures towit:

 

We Thomas P. Fletcher and Alexander Jones having been appointed by the Circuit Court of Wayne County at the

April term of said court in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty five to make equal division of

the lands of Joseph Martin dec'd, among the heirs of the said dec'd towit:

 

John Wilson, James Martin, David Martin, Owen Martin, Henry Martin, Lewis Black, Joseph Martin, Elizabeth

Haley, Mary Martin and Nathan Martin, Martha Martin and Jane Martin.

We do certify that we have the following division of the real Estate of the said dec'd among the several heirs towit:

To Martha Martin the SE qtr of Sec 7 Township 1 S R 8 E.

 

To Jane Martin the West half of SE qtr of Sec 36 Township 1 N R 7 E,

 

To Nathan Martin the N 111 of the SE qtr of Sec 11 Township 2 S R 8 E & the N 1/2 of the SW qtr of Sec 12

Township 2 S R 8 E or to be run so as to make one hundred and ninety acres.

To Mary Martin the South part of the two last named quarter sections or one hundred and thirty acres.

 

To Lewis Black the W 1/2 of the E 1/2 of the SW qtr of Sec 7 T 1 S R 8 E and the W 1/2 of the E 1/2 of the NW qtr

of Sec 1ST 1 SR8E.

 

To Elizabeth Haley the E 1/2 of the two last named 1/2 qtr sections.

 

To David Martin the E 1/2 of the SE qtr of Sec 12 T 1 S R 7 E.

 

To James Martin the W 1/2 of the SE qtr of Sec 29 T 1 N R 8 E with an addition of twenty acres to be taken off the

NW qtr of Sec 32 T 1 N R 8 E as follows: Beginning at the NE corner of said qtr section, thence West twenty rods.

Thence south 160 rods. Thence East twenty rods. Thence 160 rods to the beginning.

To Owen Martin the balance of the said NW qtr ofSec32T!NR8E making 140 acres.

To Joseph Martin the E 1/2 of the SW qtr of Sec 29 T 1 N R 8 E.

To Henry Martin the W 1/2 of the NE qtr of Sec 32 T 1 N R 8 E.

To John Wilson the E 1/2 of the SW qtr of Sec 36 T 1 N R 7 E.

 

All of the said tracts of lands lying in the county of Wayne, State of Illinois. We further certify that to make the said

tracts of land equal in value that Jane Martin must pay to Elizabeth Haley fifty dollars in horses or cattle, and that

John Wilson must pay to Lewis Black thirty dollars in cattle, and that Nathan Martin and Mary Martin must each pay

to Lewis Black five dollars in cattle, and that we have not made division of the tracts on which the improvements is

made but leave it to be divided after the death of the widow or when the courts may direct. Being the W 1/2 of the

SW qtr of Sec 7 T 1 S R 8 E and the W 1/2 of the NW qtr of Sec 18 T 1 S R 8 E.

Upon which said returns, the following certificate is endorsed towit:

State of Illinois. Before me Wm. Wilson chief Justice of the supreme court of the state of Illinois personally appeared

the within named Thomas P. Fletcher and Alexander Jones and acknowledged the within report to be their account

and deed for the intents and purposes therein written. Given under my hand and seal at Fairfield this 23rd day of June

1826.
