Much of my information comes from Eleanor Lane, Gary Wood and Karen Reiders
The first known Lane is Moses Lane, or at least that is as far as anyone has gotten with the family tree. He is where everyone is stuck. There is a belief that Moses is the son of Spencer & Rebecca PENNINGTON Lane. As yet there is no solid proof of this connection that I know of. If I am wrong please let me know.
Background on Spencer Lane by Gary E. Wood……
“Spencer Lane was born between 1799 and 1816 in Virginia (Family legend says Orange County). His tombstone says he was born 1799 but has been handwritten and does not look Authentic. Spencer lived in Jackson County, Tennessee in 1830 census (probably with his wife’s Pennington family) and came to Illinois around 1830 – 1836 and died Sept. 13, 1888 in Jefferson County Illinois and is buried at Black Oak Ridge Cemetery, Jefferson County, Illinois. He married 1820 – 1830 Rebecca Pennington born in Kentucky (Probably Cumberland or Barren County) she died after August of 1854. Spencer Lane was in Alexander Co. Ill in 1836, White County Illinois in 1840 – 1844, Wayne County Illinois 1850 – 1860, Jefferson County Illinois 1883 – 1888. “
