Trinity United Evangelical Church

Sterling IL, Whiteside County

The Trinity United Evangelical church was organized August 1894, with a membership of about 30 and Rev. B.B. Shultze, pastor. At that time the small congregation worshipped in G.A.R. hall and was without a cent's worth of property in the world. It was decided that a church home must be secured at any price. Pastor and people at once set to work with faith and diligence. Many kind friends in Sterling, and other places, opened their hearts and hands until a sufficient amount was raised to warrant the erection of a modest structure.

The church was built on the corner of Third street and Fifth avenue,w hich proves a splendid location. January 14, 1895, witnessed the dedication of the house of God an His service. It was a great day for the "little flock." Young and old alike felt happy in view of the wonderful victory wrought for them by the Spirit of God. Since that day the congregation has been growing slowly, but steadily, and much is looked for in the immediate future.

The church does considerable work through her various organizations. They are the following; The Quarterly Conference, The Board of Trustees, the SUnday School, the Keystone League of Christian Endeavor, the Auxilliary Missionary Society, the Woman's Missionary Society, the Mission Band, the Kings' Daughters. The Prayer of the pastor, and people as well, is now, and always has been, that the church might prove a great blessing to Sterling, by being a moral force, and above all, a spiritual power.
