May 28 - A good time was had in Association. The Sunday School Convention also had a session at evening I spoke a while on Sunday School work. Weather fair. Over night at Swearingens.

July 19 – In AM I worked in the garden. I got ready & the Rev. Knight took me to Geneseo where I took train to Moline. Over night at C. J. Starks. Weather fair. Fare ½ - 35 cts.

July 20 – At 6 ½ took train to West Liberty ½ fare .69. For shaving .10. Dinner .57. Fare to Center Point 1.95. Paper and envelopes at Cedar Rapids .10. Walked to Mr. Jno. Foxes & over night. Weather fair.

July 21 – (Independence, Ia.) Work – Assisted Ben Bender at work on his barn. At evening went to B. Bender’s. Attended Prayer Meeting at Chapel. Weather fair.

July 23 – Was at Benjamin’s all day. Weather fair.

July 24 – (Iowa) Assisted in bunching hay at B. Bender’s in AM. PM went for B. Bender who was at work at Jno. W. Fox’s. Weather fair.

Aug. 1 – In Co. with Benjamin Bender went to Walker, heard Rev. Geo. Allen preach on Plan of Salvation. Exhausted. Stayed in Clark over night at J. Bettys. Weather fair.

Aug. 2 – (From Walker, Ia. to Illinois) B. Bender took me to Walker where I took train at 9 AM for Ely. Fare $1.20. Walked to Western [College]. Stopped at J. L. Nilhards who showed me through College. Over night at Ely .25 cts. Weather fair. B. B. Settled Wm. Kleckners note. Paid me 40 dols.

SUMMERY

This was a very difficult year. Apparently Conrad was unable to preach and his income was very curtailed. He was able to do physical work. At the Quarterly Meting at Phenix on June 27th a collection of “$25.00 in money & Sup.” was received for C. Bender.

At the Annual Conference he received no appointment and moved into a house owned by his friend Geo. Baye near Geneseo in Henry County. For several months he did not attend church on a regular basis.
