Jan. 23 -Had Company. Assisted Wife serving. Weather fair but cold. At family worship Wife was unusually blessed in a special petition for the Salvation of the family. Lord help us all. Feb. 1 - [Repeated entry below.] Feb. 2 - Our 8th baby was born this morning at 6 o'clock; name Nellie Rebecca. Weather very Stormy. All day at home. (Dr. Rumage assisted with Aunt Barbary Overholser. Weather very Snowy & Stormy.) Feb. 26 -. Bought Clothes Ringer from S. Fergeson. Mar. 14 - Sent letters to Rev. Ben Bender Mar. 21 - Went & visited at Mr. William Conaway whose son George died at 8.20 AM. Apr. 2 - Prayer Meeting at 10 AM. We closed the Meeting on acct of a partial panic accruing from W. Conaways death from Glanders. [a serious bacterial disease of the respiratory tract and skin; usually infecting horses but may be contracted by humans; usually fatal]. Apr. 14 - We rec'd notice from the Veterinary Surgeon to destroy all hitching Posts at Church house & in Coleta on acct of Glanders propagated at W. Conaways. June 18 - Finished & hung our Mosquito net. July 4 - Acted as Chaplain on 4th Celebration in Coleta. A good time was had. At 1 PM we buried old Mrs. Roland in Hazel Green Cemetery. Prayer Meeting at night. A lad got his hand blown nearly off at night by a giant firecracker. Deets where I united in Marriage J. B. Fenton and Alice M. Deets. Weather rainy in PM. Deaths and Funerals: Feb. 17 - Attended funeral of Mr. Sam Purghs Child. Rev. Van Swiggen Officiated. Weather fair. Roads icy. Mar. 14 - Went to Hickory Grove and preached funeral for John Wick aged 90 yrs., I mo. & 14 days. Text: Math. 25. 23. Rev. M. V. Crom assisted. Weather very fair. Mar. 21 - Went & visited at Mr. William Conaway whose son George died at 8.20 AM. Went home. Weather fair. Mar. 22 - Attended funeral of Geo. H. Conaway aged 17 yrs. & 23 days.
