SUMMARY

The death of Nellie on February 22 at a little over 1 year of age of “lung fever” would have marked 1884 as a hard year for the family. Conrad was sick with a “sore eye” for over a month, and was troubled with rheumatism.

Little contact was mentioned of the larger family – Polly Kleckner, wife of Cousin Charles T. Kleckner died in March; had supper at William Bender’s in June, possibly an uncle; visited with the Riches in Stephenson County in September.

At the Annual Conference in September he was reappointed. Attended trustee meetings at Dover Academy and the Ministerial Association meetings in June and November. Went to the Polo Camp Meeting in August.

“Bot” a second hand buggy in October for $25 to be paid for in six months. Bot a suit for $17 in September. Thanksgiving dinner was a rooster donated by a parishioner.

Feb. 22 – Our sweet Nellie Rebecca this day at 1 PM closed her short career in this life, aged 1 yr. and 20 days. “May the Lord give us grace to live so as to meet her in Heaven”. Weather fair.
Feb. 24 – Rev. J. J. Margilleth officiated at the funeral of our dear little Nellie who sleeps now with New Lebanon Cemetery. A large concourse of people were beside. Weather fair.
Mar. 27 – Death of Polly Kleckner at 1230 AM [Mary Gift, wife of Charles T., cousin, in Davis, Stephenson Co., IL].
Apr. 5 - Tragedy – Mr. Andrews was shot in a quarrel by his Son John, 17 yrs. Old.
Apr. 27 – Went to Ed Thomas’ on business pertaining to his burial. At 1 PM we buried Ed Thomas. Age 64, 2, 24.
May 13 – Officiated at Mr. Geo.& Lizzie Franks Childs funeral at 1 PM.
