Vera BARTHOLOMEOW of Sterling was granted a divorce from Lloyd Bartholomeow of Nelson, Friday morning in Whiteside County Circuit Court, Morrison. She was given permission to use the name gained by a former marriage, Velma Meyers. Her maiden name was Velma Gebhardt. The couple as married December 27, 1947 and parted January 25, 1948.

Ruth BURGE - The details of a short marriage episode were contained in a divorce suit filed today by Ruth L. Berge vs. Alfred J. Berge of Prophetstown. She state in her complaint that they were married on Sept. 21, 1933, and that two weeks later he began abusing her. She states that he owns a home and half-interest in a garage at Prophetstown, and asks that the court award her alimony. She also asks that she be granted her maiden name. A lawsuit for divorce has been filed in circuit court by Sarah Bushman of Coleta against her husband Joseph Bushman. She charges cruelty. The plaintiff asks for the custody of their only daughter, and support. In the complaint it is set forth that they were married March 4, 1933, and lived together until July 14, 1938.

Mrs. Sarah Bushman of Malvern was granted a decree of divorce by Judge Francis J. Coyle in circuit court Wednesday [10/26/1938] from Joseph Bushman. Cruelty was charged. She was awarded custody of their daughter and $10 a month for her support. The couple were married March 4, 1933.

A divorce was granted in circuit court Monday mroning by Judge Francis L. Coyle to George L. CAPP of Jordan from Martha Capp. He charged desertion. They were married in 1910 and she is alleged to have deserted him in 1932.

Mrs. A. D. (Galena) Cochran alleges That Husband Treated Her With Extreme Cruelty Mrs. Galena Cochran has flied a petition for divorce from A. D. Cochran of this city to whom she was married in Clinton Sept.. 17, 1903, and who is the father of their two children, Edward and Inez. She alleges extreme cruelty in beating, striking and kicking and choking her and in addition accuses him of using obscene and profane language. According to the dates set forth their troubles began in the spring of 1909, since which time he has on several occasions struck her and her mother and threatened to kill her. She alleges that he is the owners of 100 acres of land situated near Morrison, valued at $100 per acre, owns property in Morrison to the value of $3,000, is owner of the Lime Kiln property valued at $6,000, an automobile worth $950, and a stock of goods and furniture worth $500. She sets forth that he is a tailor by trade and she has received an injection restraining him from disposing of the property pending the hearing of the case. She alleges that by reason of abuse to herself and children she was compelled to withdraw with them from the home on Oct. 18. (Contributed by Margaret Mangers from the Sterling Gazette 21 Oct 1910. Margaret also found this additional information. In 1910 Albert & Galena were living in Morrison with children Edward A, Inez M and her mother Rhoda McElrath in the household. The divorce was granted 15 January 1914. Albert married next to Eleanor WIlson Aug. 7, 1926. Galena Cochran died Dec. 11, 1963.

Charles DONMOYER of Erie has filed a suit for divorce in circuit court from Millie Donmoyer. He states in his petition that they were wed June 26, 1937, and that she was cruel and orderedhim to leave on Dec. 7, 1937. They have no children.

Esther OPPENDIKE of Prophetstown has filed a suit for divorce from Donald Oppendike, charging drunkenness and abusiveness. They were married March 12, 1932. There are no children and no property. The couple lived together until May 13, 1934. Mrs. Oppendike asks permission to resume her maiden name of Esther Johnson.

Clare Bushman REYNOLDS divorced from LaRetta M. Dollinger

Bernice SCHMITT of Prophetstown was granted a divorce from Frank Schmitt on grounds of cruelty. She was also granted 420 monthly alimony for the support of their one child. She charged that her husband slapped and struck her on numerous occassions with such force, that she was ill afterwards. He was present in court, but did not contest the suit. They were married in 1930.

Lyle YOUNT was granted a divorce from Agnes Yount on grounds of desertion by circuit judge Leon A. Zick. The Younts were married Nov. 22, 1941 at Coleta. The plantiff was granted custody of their minor child. Attorney A.G. Harris represented the plaintiff.

FOUR DIVORCES ARE GRANTED IN CIRCUIT COURT: (Sterling Gazette 10 Sept. 1938) - Four divorces were granted in circuit court Friday [09/09/1938] by Judge L. E. Telleen, who held a one day session mainly to clear the docket of old cases prior to the installation of a new loose leaf bar docket system. The following divorces were granted: Estella McCormick vs. Stanley McCormick; Loretta Rosenfeldt vs. Cecil Rosenfeldt; C. B. Reynolds vs. Laretta Reynolds; Johanna Cummings vs. Clifford Cummings.
