HUBBARD FAMILY
E. Alexis Hubbard (Biography) born June 11, 1811 in Sangerfield, Oneida Co N.Y. came to IL at some point prior to 1838 where he
established a claim in Lyndon Twp., in his own name, and also one for his brother Solomon Hubbard born 19 Jul 1804.
Solomon had left N.Y. and moved to Medina Co OH in 1830 where he remained until 1838 when he sold out in the
spring of that year. After settling his family in comfortable circumstances he then started out for Illinois
on foot and walked all the way to Whiteside County. He planted a crop on his brothers claim and in July
returned to Ohio and brought his family back to IL with him.
Alexis Hubbard married Olive Dusette on 11 Sept 1839 and I have to believe this marriage occured in the East as I
can find no record for it in Illinois. His biography indicates he never had any children of his own - but did have adopted
or foster children. One child was named Alexis E. Hubbard who was age 12 on the 1850 Whiteside County census. There was seven
year old Mary B. Morris also listed on this census.
Solomon Hubbard (Biography) married Sarepta Stone, a daughter of Wm. & Elizabeth (Branch) Stone on 31 August 1826.
Their children were -
Chauncy B. born July 4, 1827;
Levi, born June 15, 1829,
Elizabeth, born September 20, 1831 (died 14 Oct 1849);
Darwin, born July 15, 1833 (died 7 Nov 1849;
Almina, December 11, 1836 (died 23 Sep1849);
William, born November 20, 1838;
Orson, born May 24, 1843, and
George Henry, born February 16, 1845.
1. Siley M. Hubbard December 14, 1852 (Married Hugh W. Bunn 22 Sep 1883 - lived in the Rockford area)
Ferdinand B. Hubbard, (Obituary) a third known brother who came to Whiteside County,
was also born in Oneida Co. NY, May 4, 1818. He married Mary O. Dorchester, April 17, 1850.
Ferdinand's first arrival in Whiteside County was with his brother Alexis in 1839.
He taught school at Princeton for a short time (Bureau County) and then went back east for a few years - later moving to Medina County Ohio where his two oldest
children Siley and Charles, were born in 1853 and 1855. The family came back to Whiteside County prior to 1855 as his bio indicates he started his business in Sterling in that year.
