On this 13th day of August A.D. 1864, before me A. Farmington, Clerk of the Circuit Court in and for the County and State above named, personally appeared Mrs. Mariell S. Rexroad aged 19 years, who being duly sworn according to law declares that her Post-Office address on Erie Whiteside County in the State of Illinois and that she is the widow of Samuel A. Rexroad who was Private in Company A commanded by Captain Peter Ege in the 34th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers, and who Died at Rome, Georgia on or about the 13th day of June 1864, by reason of Wounds received in Battle.

That she was married to the said Samuel A. Rexroad on the Eleventh day of October A.D. 1860, at Kings___ Whiteside, Illinois by one J. B. Emmons [sic] Esq a Justice of the Peace that her name before her said marriage was Marielle Wright and she states that she believes that there is a public record of her said marriage in the office of the Clerk of the County Court of said County a copy of which is herewith attached and that her husband, the aforesaid Samuel A. Rexroad died or was killed on the day above mentioned, and she has continued a widow since that date, all of which will more fully appear, by reference to the proof hereto annexed.

She further states that at this death, her said husband, left surviving him no child or children under the age of sixteen years; and in truth and in fact her said Husband left no child or children surviving him.

She also declares that she has not in any manner been engaged in or aided or abetted the rebellion in the united States, and that she is not now in receipt of a pension under any act of Congress.

She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the pension to which she may be entitled under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 14, 1861, and hereby constitutes and appoints Woodruff & Jackson, of Morrison, Whiteside County Illinois, her attorneys with power of substitution to prosecute her claim and procure a certificate; hereby authorizing and empowering her said attorneys, to do all necessary and lawful acts and things whatsoever in the premises, except drawing the money which will be hereafter provided for, and revoking and countermanding all former authority that may have been given for the above specified purpose. Sworn to, subscribed and acknowledged before me, the day and year first above written; and, also personally appeared H. W. Wright a resident of Erie Whiteside, Illinois and Henry Bolton a resident of Kingsbury Whiteside Co., Illinois persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit who being duly sworn according to law, declare that they personally acquaint with Mrs. Marielle Rexroad who has made and subscribed the following declaration in their presence, and were acquainted with her and her said husband before he entered the military service of the United States, and know that they lived together as man and wife and were so reputed and acknowledged by those who knew them. That she is the widow of the identical Samuel A. Rexroad who performed the military service mentioned in said declaration, and has remained a widow since his death, and they believe that all the statements made by her in the foregoing declaration are true. That their knowledge of the identity of her husband with the soldier and of their marriage is derived from personal knowledge of the facts.

And they further state that they reside as above stated and have no interest in the prosecution of this claim (Signed) H. W. Wright Henry Bolton

I, Winfield S. Wilkinson, Clerk of the County Court, in the County and State aforesaid, do hereby certify that Mr. Samuel A. Rexroad was married to M___ Marielle Wright, on the Eleventh day of October AD 1860, in pursuance of License of such from his office, by Isaac B. Emmons, a Justice of the Peace in said County as appears from the original license and Justices Certificate now on file in my office,

Rexroad private of Company “A” 34th Reg- Ills Infy – Vet – Vols – was wounded in action at Rome Ga – May 17th 1864 – and that He – died – from effects of said wound June 14th 1864. he was wounded while in the discharge of duty as a soldier – by a gun shot – from the enemy –

My knowledge of the above facts is obtained from the following source: I was in command of Co. “A” when Samuel A. Rexroad was wounded – and received official notice of his death and made final statements in his case –
