STELLA (WILSER) ALLEN
, age 80, widow of the late representative Henry C. Allen of Lyndon passed away this morning at the Morrison hospital. The body was removed to the Gardener funeral home at Prophetstown and will be taken to her late home east of Lyndon tomorrow. Funeral services will be conducted from the home at 2 p.m. the Rev. George McKinley, pastor of the Prophetstown Congregational church officiating and interment will be in Lyndon cemetery. The daughter of the late Henry & Margaret Wisler was born in Lyndon township Jan 1, 1868. She had spent her entire lifetime in the vicinity of Lyndon and had resided in her late home since 1899. She was educated in the Lyndon schools and was a charter member of the Lyndon club and an honorary member of the Bend missionary society. She was united in marriage to Henry C. Allen in Morrison March 12, 1890 (Il Records indicate 1891). She is survived by two sons Frank of Lyndon and Robert of Sterling; four daughters, Mrs. Floyd Emmons of Lyndon, Mrs. Leo Bartel of Sterling, Mrs. Donald Olinger of Prophetstown, and Mrs. Frank Swanson of Sterling; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.She was preceded by her parents,her husband who passed in 1937, two sons who died in infancy, and a brother Jesse Wilser in 1945.

WILLIAM ALLEN
, for thirty-five years foreman of the Northwestern round house in this city, died Wednesday evening at 8
o’clock, at his home in the southwestern part of town. For years he had the asthma, and this disease caused his death.
He was born in Ireland 65 years ago and resided here for 35 years, coming here when the Northwestern did, and continuing as foreman of the company’s round house ever since. He leaves a wife (Alice Colford Allen) and four children. He was careful of his money, and leaves his family well provided for. Mr. Allen was an excellent citizen and his loss is felt, not only by his family, but by the railroad folks and his many friends. The funeral occurred at two o’clock this afternoon.

Alice Allen was the sister of Catherine Curtin. Like the Curtin family, the Allen’s worked on the railroad and
suffered the same losses.
WILLIAM H. ALLEN
, 78, 506 Wallace Street, died Friday evening at the Sterling public hospital. The body was taken to the Trouth funeral home from where it will be removed to the late residence this afternoon at 5 o’clock. The funeral will be held at 8:30 Monday morning at the residence and at 9 o’clock at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary.
The Rosary will be said Sunday evening at 8 o’clock at the residence.
Mr. Allen was one of the last of the old time railroad men for whom Sterling was famous for so many years. His father and mother, the late William and Alice Allen,
Came to Sterling with the railroad in the early sixties. They settled at 506 Wallace Street, where William H. Allen was born August 24, 1868. He lived in the same house up to the time of his death.
He was married June 7, 1898 to Katherine Sheridan of Sterling in St. Patrick’s church (now St. Mary). She preceded him in death May 16, 1913, as did four sisters and one brother.
He is survived by three children—Margaret Allen, Sterling; Mrs. George F. Virkus, LaGrange, Ill; and William S. Allen of Winnetka. Five grandsons also survive.
Mr. Allen early in life followed in the footsteps of his father and entered the service of the Chicago & North Western railroad for which he worked 52 years. He retired seven years ago.

(Funeral Notice) - The funeral of William Allen took place Monday morning in St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Leo Ambre conducting the mass and Rt. Rev. Msgr. A.J. Burns delivering the funeral sermon. Committal rites at the grave in Calvary cemetery were also in charge of Monsignor Burns.
Serving as pall bearers were George Behrens, Charles Gagin, F. A. Virkus, William Rourke, Joseph Ward and Lawrence McKevitt. The flowers were taken care of by Mrs. W. L. Killian and Mrs. Fred Wahl.

, of Evanston, formerly of Sterling, died Sunday morning.
Funeral rites are Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Fitzgerald and Franklin Funeral Home, 1571 Maple Avenue, Evanston, to St. Mary’s Church for mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Surviving with Mrs. Allen are three sons, David of Potomac, Md., Dr. William S., Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y. and Alfred of Alpine, N.J., nine grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Delaney and Mrs. Alice Virkus of Sterling.

EDNA (STERN) ARNOLD
, 91, a long time resident of Walnut, died Wednesday (20 Apr 1977) at the Professional Care Center in Sterling.
Private funeral services will be at the Ross Funeral Home, Walnut, Friday afternoon. Burial will be in the Tampico Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Ross Funeral Home from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Friday.
Edna Arnold was born Dec. 21, 1885 to James and Mary Stern, in Bradford. She married Jess Arnold, Feb. 12, 1907, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include three nieces, Mrs. Oscar Haregardy, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Robert Schmitt and Mrs. Dale Kelly, both of Tampico.

EFFIE ARNOLD
, a resident of Tampico most of her lifetime, passed away Tuesday (26 Sep 1961) in the Independence Hospital at Independence, Mo.
The body will arrive in Chillicothe, Ill., Wednesday afternoon and will be brought to the Melvin Funeral Home in Sterling. At noon Thursday the body will be taken to the Tampico Methodist Church to lie in state until the funeral service at two o'clock. The Rev. Nathan Althoff, pastor, will officiate and burial will take place in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the Tampcio Methodist Church.
Mrs. Arnold was born Dec. 20, 1880, in Tampico. Her husband, James Arnold, preceded her in death in 1954. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gordon Brooks of Independence, Mo., a sister, Mrs. Louise Arnold of Tampico; a half-sister, Mrs. Emma Christenson of LaPlata, Mo.; two grandchildren, Arnold Brooks of Overland Park, Kan., and Mrs. Richard Miller of Independence, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.

LOUISE E. (EKDAHL) ARNOLD
,84, passed away Thursday evening in the Morrison Hospital. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Schmitt Chapel, Tampico, the Rev. Edgard Perez officiating, with burial in Tampico Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday. Louise Arnold was born May 2, 1884, in Fairfield Township, the daughter of Benjamin and Christine Ekdahl. She was educated in the Tampico schools and lived in this area all her life. She married Joseph Arnold in June, 1905, in Tampico. She was a member of the First United Methodist church. She is survived by one daughter, Mildred Arnold, at home and nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, one daughter Marjorie in 1966, two sisters, one brother, three half-sisters and one half brother.

DOROTHY MAE (OPPENDIKE) ARP
, was born Aug. 8, 1911, in Hillsdale, IL, the daughter of John and Nellie Hart Oppendike. She graduated from Hillsdale High School and Rock Island Business College.She married Otto Arp on July 16, 1933, in Dixon, IL. He passed away on September 19, 2001. They were married for 67 years. She was employed at Regalia and Fresh Pack Candy Co.
She was the loving mother of a son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Diana Arp, Bagley, WI; a daughter, Diana Coelho, Moline; grandchildren and spouses, Kimberly and Rick Arp-Barnett, Grosse Ile, MI, Shari and David Shrum, Crownsville, MD, Christine Lynne, Spring Hill, KS, and Jon and Carrie Coelho, Peoria, IL; great-grandchildren, Jacee, Lexis, Zachery, Kacie; step-grandchildren, Kimberly and Jason; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, her parents, two sisters, three brothers and a grandson, Jon Arp II.
Dorothy enjoyed her family, especially her grand-children. She also enjoyed baking through the years. She gifted friends and family with trays of cookies for Christmas.
She passed away two days before her 94th birthday on August 6, 2005 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL.
Serevices were held Saturday, August 13, at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown beside her husband, Otto.

EMMA MARGRETHE (HANSEN) AVERY
, 82, of Prophetstown, passed away this morning (22 November 1966) at the Clinton Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Gardner Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Paul Olson of the Methodist Church officiating with burial in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel Wednesday afternoon and evening. No visitation on Thursday. Emma Margrethe Hansen was born Nov. 27, 1884 in Fairfield Twp., the daughter of Orla F. and Mary Nelson Hansen. She married Horace E. Avery of Erie, Feb. 12, 1909 in Prophetstown. They lived in the Tampico area for many years and moved to Prophetstown from Erie in 1964. She was a member of the Tampico Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Vernon f Erie; one daughter, Carolyn, of Prophetstown; one brother, Peter Hansen of Princeton, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, four brothers and five sisters.
