REUBEN ECHEBARRIA , 67, of
Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the
nursing home. He was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. Sterling,
for more than 30 years. Mr. Echebarria was born June 22, 1935, in
Sterling, the son of Exiquio and Maria (Rodriguez) Echebarria. He married
Aurora Garcia in Sterling. Survivors include a daughter, Aurora (Jeff) Hay
of Montgomery; a son Ruben Echebarria Jr. of Aurora; four sisters, Adelina
Martinez, Maria (Tony) Moncivais, Mary Lou Echebarria and Carmen
Echebarria, all of Sterling; five brothers, Frank Echebarria of Rock
Falls, and Jerry Echebarria, Tony Echebarria, Ezekiel Echebarria and
Johnny Echebarria, all of Sterling; and two grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his parents, and a brother, David Echebarria. The funeral is
at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tabernacle Christian Church, Sterling, with the Rev.
Charlie White officiating. Burtial is at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Allen-Grennan Funeral Home, First
Avenue Chapel, Sterling.
FLORENCE ANNA (BRANTS) ECKDAHL - of 1314 14th Ave., Sterling, passed away Sunday (10 Sep 1961)
afternoon in Community General Hosopital following a brief illness. The
body was taken to the Melvin Funeral home where friends may call after 7
p.m. this evening until Wednesday noon. At that time the body will be
taken to the First Church of the Nazarene to lie in state until 2 p.m. the
hour of services, with the Rev. H. C. Hatton officiating. Burial will be
in the cemetery at Tampico. She was born Jan. 25, 1884 in Peoria County,
the daughter of John and Galena Johnson Brants. She was educated and spent
her girlhood near Hooppole, later coming to Tampico with her parents,
where she cared for her mother until she passed away. On Aug. 5, 1939 she
was married to Victor Eckdahl, also of Tampico, who preceded her in death,
June 27, 1943. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, and reading
her Bible and attendance at church provided her great comfort. She spent
much of her time assisting in the care of sick and invalid friends.
Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Myerhofer and Mrs. George
McIntyre, Sanford, Manitoba, Can., Mrs. Jessie Black and Mrs. Pearl
Hoefler, Sterling; two step-daughters, Mrs. Arthur Ackeberg, Prophetstown
and Mrs. Tracy Fullerton, San Gabriel, Calif.; three nephews and many
other relatives. She was preceded by her husband, parents, one brother,
one sister, two nephews and two nieces.
MINNIE ELVIRA (PRATT) EDDY 91, died Sunday in the Community General Hospital following a
lengthy illness. Mrs. Eddy was born in Hume township, Whiteside County
Aug. 15, 1870, the daughter of Allen M. and Eliza Pratt. She was educated
in the Hume school. She was married to Lloyd Y. Eddy of Erie. She had
resided in Tampico for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Tampico
Methodist Church and for more than 50 years had been a member of Morning
Star Chapter OES. Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Ivy McKenzie, and one
brother Lloyd Pratt, both of Tampico; a number of nieces and nephews and
grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband,
parents, four sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be
conducted in Schmitt Funeral Chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Nathan
Althoff, pastor of the Tampico Methodist Church officiating. He will be
assisted by the Rev. Henry Holverson, pastor of the Ottawa Methodist
Church. Burial will be in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call
at the Schmitt Funeral Chapel after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
LESTER A. EDEN departed
this earthly life Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at CGH Medical Center . He was
born Aug. 13, 1918, at home in Round Grove, the son of Edward H. and Tomma
(Hinrichs) Eden. He attended a one-room schoolhouse through eighth grade,
after which he worked on his family farm. Lester went to Rock Falls and
worded for 15 years at Intenational Harvester. Upon their closing, he
worked at the Parrish Alford Mill as a wire drawer. He was a long-time
member of Immanuel Lutheran Church , Rock Falls . He married Ruth Lahre
Cruden on Dec. 8, 1951, in Savanna. They made their first home on West
Fifth Street , Rock Falls . For many years he and his wife displayed
Christmas lights at their home on Tenth Avenue and numerous Christmas
decorations inside and out, winning first place by the Chamber of
Commerce. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and Ruth had many
Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings at their home. Family was important
to them. Known as a handyman in the community one would see him repairing
the neighborhood children’s bikes, fixing appliances and working on
miscellaneous things. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, of 55
years; one stepson, Joe (Sherry) Cruden of Rockford; one daughter, Darlene
(Thomas) Danler of Dixon; one sister, Mildred Potts of Sterling ; four
grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, Abby, Dustin, Amara, Elise and Ivy; and
numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one
brother, Walter Eden; and two sisters, Marian Shuman and Edna Muntean.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at Immanuel
Lutheran Church , Rock Falls , with the Rev. Henrietta Milner officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at McDonald
Funeral Home, Rock Falls , and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will conclude the services at Oak Knoll Memorial Park , Sterling .
Memorials have been established to Immanuel Lutheran Church , Rock Falls ,
and CGH Health Foundation, Sterling .
VIRGINIA M. (FORTH) EDLUND
, 85, of Crystal Pines Health Care Center, Crystal Lake, formerly of Morrison, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999 at the nursing home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. James A. Camp, pastor of First Presbyteran Church, Morrison, officiating. Burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison. Visitation will be from 12:30-20 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to First Presbyterian Church, Morrison.
Mrs. Edlund was born April 27, 1914, in Morrison, the daughter of Frank and Olive (Matznick) Forth.
She graduated from Morrison High School. She married Merle E. Edlund on Dec. 22, 1934, in Morrison. He died March 21, 1962. She was employed part-time by Pittenger's Clothing Store and Donickey's Drug Store, both in Morrison, then by General Electric Co., Morrison, for 35 years as a bookkeeper. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Morrison.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Robert) Groos of Crystal Lake and Kristen Lineberger of Long Beach, Calif., a son, Kedric (Sandra) Edlund of Burr Ridge; a sister, Betty (Charles) Woodson of Morrison; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
HAROLD D. ELDRED
- Funeral services were largely attended at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Allen Funeral Home in Sterling for a well known man, Harold D. Eldred of 1406 E. LeFevre, Sterling, who died Saturday evening.
Rev. Luther Cooperrider, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiated at the services with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Wayne E. Larson was at the organ playing Rock of Ages during the services. Pallbearers were Ted Aggen, Rkobert Easley, Earl Nelson, Clifford Garriott Jr., Edwin Kereven and Julius Partridge.
Flowers were cared for by Swartleys.
The Rock Falls American Legion Post 9902, The Sterling American Legion Post 296 and the Twin City Barracks 3083, World War I attended in a group and held military rites at the grave. A group of representatives from other Illinois Veteran Commission offices attended the services.
IDA M. (ROBINSON) ELSESSER
- of 1402 W. 4th St., Sterling, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday (17 April 1957) in Community General Hospital. The body was removed to the Melvin Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday. Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Rev. David B. Maxton, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
She was born Aug 29, 1880 in Galt, a daughter of James and Florence Carruth Robinson. She was married to Fred Elsesser in February of 1904 in Rock Falls. Mrs. Elsesser was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Order of Eastern Star, The Woman's Club and Galt Grange.
Surviving are one son, John, Rt. 4, Sterling, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Anna Allen, Sterling; two brothers, Fred Robinson, Ramsey, Ill., and Edward Robinson, San Bernadino, Calif.
She was preceded by her parents, one sister, three brothers, and one great granddaughter
GENEVA (SNYDER) ENWRIGHT ,
86, died Sunday morning (18 April 1971) in Colonial Acres Nursing home,
Rock Falls. Mass will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in the
Immaculate Conception Church, Fulton, with the Rev. Edward Hughes
officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be
in the Bosma Funeral Home, Monday, after 7 p.m. Rosary will be recited at
7:30 p.m. and the office of the dead at 8 p.m Tuesday in the funeral home.
Mrs. Enwright was born in Garden Plain Oct 4, 1884, the daughter of Alec
and Mary Beetie Snyder. She married Charles J. Enwright June 16, 1909. He
died Sept. 27, 1939. She was as member of the Altar and Rosary Society of
her church; Fulton 402 American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include two
daughters, Mrs. Joe (Mary) Kerr and Mrs. Thomas (Margaret) Hand, both of
Fulton; three sons, William, Hardwood Heights; Arthur and Earle, both of
Clinton; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Harold
Snyder, Aurora. She was preceded by four sisters and one brother.
EVERT L. EPPS
, 80, of 1013 Avenue C, Rock Falls, died Tuesday, May 14, 1996, at KSB Hospital, Dixon, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Howard Wiseman, pastor of the Lincoln Avenue Church of God, Dixon, officiating. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rock Falls. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.
Mr. Epps was born Jan. 28, 1916, in Vernon, the son of Charles E. and Amy (Lester) Epps. He married Hazel G. Latta on Sept. 6, 1941. She died in 1978. He served in the 4554th Bomb Group with the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was employed as a craftsman and a carpenter at L. L. Morgan. He was a member of the Sterling Veterans of Foreign Wars #326.
Survivors include two sons, Berton L. Epps of Dixon; and Bruce G. (Mary) Epps of Starke, Fla; six grandchildren, Aaron, Justin, Sierra, Chester, Jennifer, and Jessica; two sisters, Inez Price of Rock Falls, and Ellen Mae Cedro of Sterling; and several nieces and nephews.
DORIS (GERDES) ETHRIDGE , 73, of Polo died Wednesday October 12, 1994 in CGH Medical Center in Sterling . A daughter of August and Tina (Meyer) Gerdes, she was born September 19, 1921 in Milledgeville. She and Ivan Ethridge were married April 27, 1943 in Milledgeville. She had been employed at Pilgrim’s Café and Central Stamping in Polo prior to Micro Switch in Freeport , from which she retired. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid Society, Milledgeville. Surviving are her husband,; two sons, Sheldon (Marilyn) Ethridge of Rockton and James (Veree) Ethridge of Joliet; and three grandchildren. Survivors also include four sisters, Margaret Albers and Elsie (Elmer) Pilgrim, both of Milledgeville; Florence Webster of Davis and Irene (Herman) Ukena of Polo; and four brothers, George Gerdes of Lanark and Robert Gerdes of Tampico.
