MYRTLE HANEY
- Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Haney, 80, were held March 16 in the Tomlinson Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Clark of the First Baptsit Church of Morrison officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery at Sterling. Casket bearers were Kennth Kirst of Carpentersville, Joe Spect and Albert Forward of Tampico, Clarence Brown of Sterling, Neale Waite and Lyle Paschal of Morrison. The organist, Mrs. Eloise Stone, played a prelude and postlude to the services.
JOHN PHILLIP HEY
- The funeral of John P Hey, 88 who passed away a 4 am Friday morning (Feb 2, 1945), at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Harshman, 1402 1st ave. after an illness of four months duration will be held at 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Melvin Funeral home. The Rev. Bouldin pastor of Trinity Evangelical Church will officiate and burial will be at Praireville cemetery with the members of the Sterling I O O F lodge in charge of the services at the grave.
Mr. Hey was born Feb 11, 1856 at Poughkeepsie NY. His parents, Clementine and Jacob Hey brought him to Sterling when he was less than 1 year old. He became a farmer then became engaged in manufacturing and later still in contracting in this city and vicinity.
In February 1878, Mr. Hey married Mary Baer who preceded him in death in Feb. 1921. Later he married Mrs. Laura Kagay Judkins at Effingham. She died in California in 1928.
Since 1929 Mr.Hey made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Mary Marshman 1402 1st ave. He is also survived by another daughter Mrs. Gerna Harshman who likewise lives in Sterling and by three sons, Clement and Abraham of Sterling and Henry of Dixon. A son Ira preceded him in death in 1922.
Mr. Hey was the last of his family - 2 sisters and 2 brothers, a half sister and a half brother.
MARGARET (STOLTZ) HEY
wife of Henry S. Hey, passed away this morning in her home at 212 Madison Ave., Dixon, after an extended illness.
Funeral rites will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Melvin Funeral Home, Dixon, by the Rev. Sidney Bloomquist of the Dixon Methodist Church. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling.
Mrs Hey was born April 4, 1897, in Sterling, the daughter of Bernard and Margaret Hummel Stoltz. She is survived by her husband and two sons, and one daughter, Dean E., and James O. of Dixon and Mrs. Beulah M. Yetter of Tipton, Ia.; also by a brother, A. C. Stoltz, of Mount Vernon, Ia.; a sister, Mrs. Julia Hummel of Cedar Rapids, Ia., and nine grandchildren.
TROY JAMES HOLLOWAY
66 of 913 W. 21st St., Rock Falls, died in his home early Friday morning after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home in Rock Falls on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. A. E. Anderson, pastor of the Fairview Evangelical Congregational Church of Rock Falls, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. Friends may call at the funeral home in Rock Falls from 7-9 p.m. on Friday. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.
Troy Holloway was born Sept. 4, 1909 in Mt. Vernon, Ill., the son of George W. and Carrie B. Bond Holloway. He was united in marriage to Eva Tighe on Dec. 12, 1936 in Rockford. They lived their entire married life in the Rock Falls area. He was employed at Northwestern Steel & Wire for 37 years as a crane operator, retiring in September, 1973.
He is survived by his widow, Eva; four sons, LeRoy, Charles, Robert and Elmer, all of Rock Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Carol Rose and Mrs. Clarence (Shirley) Eades, Both of Rock Falls; two sisters, Mrs. James (Violet) Gilbert of Rochelle and Fleeta Tracey of Mt. Vernon; three brothers, Jul Holloway of Rochelle, Chester Holloway of Rock Falls and Kenneth Holloway of DeKalb; 25 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
HENRY HOOGHEEM
90, Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, formerly of 504 19th Ave., Fulton, died Saturday (23 July 1983) at the Harbor Crest Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred Bultman, pastor of the First Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, officiating. Burial will be in Fulton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Reformed Church of Fulton or to the donors choice.
Henry Hoogheem was born in Fulton on Nov. 3, 1892, the son of John Hoogheem and Anna Newendyke. On May 28, 1914 he married Stella Temple in Thomson. She preceded him on June 4, 1947. He was employed for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a car man and welder for 52 years and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Car Men of America, Local 429. He attended the First Christian Reformed Church, was an avid gardener and a lifelong Fulton resident residing at Harbor Crest since January of 1983.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Dan (Annabelle) Leonard, Mrs. Marion (Ruth) Vogel, Mrs. Francis (Nola) VenHuizen, all of Fulton, and Mrs. Eugene (Mae) Hammond, Mt. Carroll; one son, Paul R. Hoogheem, Clinton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Peter C. (Winnie) Vogel and Mrs. Jacob (Gertrude) Norman, both of Fulton; and one brother, John Hoogheem, Fulton. Preceding him in death were his wife, Stella, three daughters, two grandson, one sister and three brothers.
LEE HYDE
The body of Lee Hyde, who passed away at Muskegon Heights, Mich., at 3:30 o'clock last Friday morning, arrived in Sterling Tuesday, and was taken to the home of a brother, Robert Hyde, 211 Wallace street, from where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Hyde left here last April for Muskegon Heights, where he opened a concession stand in a summer resort park. He had been ailing for several weeks, but his condition was not considered serious until just a few days before he passed away.
