ORVILLE P. KALER
, 78, died at 1:05 p.m. Thursday (1 January 1953) at the Morrison Community Hospital after being in failing health for six years. He was a foreman in the mill room at the old Illinois Refrigerator factory and at the Ice Cooling Appliance factory for over 45 years before his retirement, and operated a business here for several years after that.
The body rests at the Reynolds Funeral Home where friends may call. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. William F. Boland officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Fulton.
Mr. Kaler was born Dec. 14, 1874, in Morrison, the son of John and Effie Kaler, and was a life-long resident here. He married Martha Volinski in 1901 in Fulton. She passed away Dec. 28, 1938. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and a former member of Co. I, Illinois National Guard.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Earl Luella Green of Morrison; a brother, Ralph Kaler of Morrison; a niece, Mrs. Edwin Carolus of Sterling; and a nephew, Warrant Officer Robert Kaler, in the Air Force at Lubbock, Tex. A child died in infancy.
ELSIE VAN (HOUZENGA) KAMPEN
, 79, of 520 19th Ave., Fulton, passed away Wednesday afternoon (29 April 1970) at Mercy Hospital, Clinton. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. with the family prayer service at 1:34 p.m. at the First Reformed church, with Rev. William Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Fulton Cemetery.
Mrs. Van Kampen was born April 2, 1891 in the Netherlands, the daughter of John and Grace Van Dyke Houzenga. She came to the U.S. with her parents at the age of 10. She married Harry Van Kampen Nov. 2, 1909. She was a member of the First Reformed church, Fulton
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Louis (Edith) Wierenga, Mrs. Jennie Dykstra, Mrs. Anna Hein, all of Fulton; two brothers, Jacob and Ralph, both of Fulton. She was preceded by her parents, husband, two sisters and eight brothers. Friends may call at the Bosma Funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday.
GEORGE KELLEN
, 86, of Sherburn, Minn., the father of Herbert Kellen of Sterling, passed away Monday night, according to messages received here. He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kellen and family will attend the funeral services to be held Thursday morning. Burial will be in the cemetery at Sherburn.
FRED J. KELLER
, 56, a former Rock Falls resident, living at 409 Kankakee Dr., Wilmington, passed away suddenly Saturday evening in St. Joseph's Hospital, Joliet, after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Addleman Funeral home in Wilmington, with the Rev. Paul Gilbert, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, in Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Mr. Keller left Rock Falls in 1952 after having resided here for 17 years. When he moved to Wilmington he was employed as a production process specialist at the Joliet arsenal. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Wilmington and the Joliet Elks lodge. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Susie L. Keller, Wilmington; one son, Keith, Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Carol) Tulley, Wilmington, and Mrs. Lee (Rose) Catineau, Manchester, Conn.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Otillie Keller, and one brother, Arthur.
MRS> ELDON KEMPF
, 34, of Buffalo, Mo., formerly of Tampico, died Wednesday, March 11, 1970 in a hospital at Buffalo. She had been ill six weeks.
Funeral rites will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in the Pleasant View A.M. Church at Buffalo, with burial there.
Surviving are the husband and eight children at home, Franklin Lee, Nellie, Ann, Tim, Jane, Lloyd, Carrie Beth and Jennie. Mrs. Kempf also leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Hostetler of Buffalo, Mo., three brothers and nine sisters. Two sisters living in this area are Mrs. Levi Hostetler of Prophetstown and Mrs. Levi Kropf of Sheffield.
BOYD KIMMEL
, 52, veteran Whiteside County law enforcing
officer, died at 6:20 a.m. today in Illinois Research Hospital, Chicago, where he was taken Tuesday. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage 10 days ago and was taken to the Morrison Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Methodist Church, with Dr. H. J. Rendall, Presbyterian pastor officiating. Masonic services will be conducted at the grave in Grove Hill cemetery.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday in the Reynolds funeral home.
Mr. Kimmel was born June 2, 1913 to Lester and Jennie Craddock Kimmel of Tampico, Whiteside County. He was reared in Chicago and had lived the last 32 years in Morrison. He married Clara Tollenaar Nov. 1, 1937 in Clinton.
Mr. Kimmel had served for 22 years in Whiteside as either special sheriff's deputy or as sheriff. He was first elected sheriff in 1946 and still had one year to serve of his current term. He was president of the Whiteside County Fair Association, chief of the Morrison Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Illinois Sheriff's Association and of the Morrison Masonic
Lodge.
Survivors are his wife: two sons, Lester of Rock Falls and John of Morrison; one daughter, Kay at home; three grandchildren; and the mother, Mrs. Jennie Kimmel, and a brother, Neal, both of Morrison. He was preceded in death by a grandson and his father.
Clara IDA (TOLLENAAR) KIMMEL
, 88, of Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO.
Mrs. Kimmel was born Oct. 18, 1914, in Washington, IA to Henry and Edith Tollenaar. She attended school in Miles and Preston, IA, receiving an RN degree in 1935 from Jane Lamb School of Nursing in Clinton, IA.
In 1937 she married Boyd Kimmel and moved to Morrison where she did private duty and visiting nursing. In 1946 was appointed to the Morrison Hospital board and became cook and matron of the Whiteside County Jail. She was the Whiteside County Sheriff from 1965 thru 1966 and was a Whiteside County deputy sheriff until her retirement in 1989.
She was a member of the Morrison Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Republican Women's club and many other local and state organizations.
Survivors include her son John (Joyce) Kimmel of Colorado Springs, Kay (Leon) Vanderploeg of Morrison, CO, grandchildren Jeff Kimmel, Beth Hardman, Patricia Fredericks, Valerie Nielsen David and Steven Vanderploeg. She had 13 great grandchildren and one step great great grandchild. Two sisters also survive, Ora Smith of Urbana and Henrietta Bergander of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, husband Boyd Kimmel, son Lester "Butch" Kimmel and a grandson in infancy.
Mrs. Kimmel donated her body for research to the University Of Colorado School Of medicine.
A memorial service was held in Colorado Springs on Sept. 27. A graveside service will be held in Morrison, at a later date.
Memorial gifts may be made to the National Heart Association.
JAMES BOYD KIMMEL
, 64, of St. Colletta School, Jefferson, WI., died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Fort Atkinson Memorial Health Services, Fort Atkinson, WI.
Mr. Kimmel was born June 1, 1937, in Morrison, IL., the son of Neal and Kathleen (Forward) Kimmel.
Survivors include a sister, Virginia (Ted) Gapinski of Winnebego, IL.; a niece, two nephews; and many great-nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Coletta Chapel, St. Coletta School, Jefferson, WI., with the Rev. Thomas Gillespie officiating. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, (IL) with the Rev. Leo Bartel, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Morrison, (IL) officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel. Local arrangements were completed by the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
JENNIE (CRADDOCK) KIMMEL
, 84, Morrison, died at
6:10 a.m. Saturday at Eveningside Nursing home.
The funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m. in
the Reynolds funeral home. The Rev. Bruce
Breneman officiated. Burial was in Grove Hill
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lawrence Ludens,
Harold Slager, Loren Olson, Edward Stuart,
Russell Wolf and Clifford Alldritt. Mrs. Henry
Musch and Mrs. Lawrence Ludens were in charge
of flowers. Mrs. Abe Renkes, organist, played
"Abide With Me".
Jennie Craddock was born Nov. 29, 1886,
in Bureau county to Delos and Minnie Craddock.
She was reared and educated at Tampico and the
Girton Ladies Finishing School near Chicago. She
married Lester L. Kimmel Nov. 26, 1910, at
Tampico. She resided in Chicago for 35 years
and moved to Morrison in 1948.
Mrs. Kimmel was a member of Ruth
Circle and the W.S.C.S. of the Methodist church
and the Morrison Garden Club.
Surviving are a son, Neal Kimmel,
Morrison, five grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband, a son Boyd, a great-grandson
and two sisters, Lena and Marian.
KATHLEEN L. KIMMEL
- 87, 191 N. Grape Street, Morrison, Il, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL.
Casket bearers will be Ed Stuart, John Massey, Bob Schick, Burton Schambaugh, Stan Maxfield, Earl Grater.
Memorials can be made to St. Coletta of Wisconsin.
Kathleen was born Dec. 21, 1912, Prophetstown, IL to Walter and Grace R. (Terry) Forward. She was educated in Leon Country School. She was a graduate of Prophetstown High School and attended Brown's Business College.
She married Neal Kimmel, Nov. 23, 1932, in Morrison, IL. He died Nov. 30, 1993.
She was employed as a bookkeeper with her husband and later with Eddie Schuler and Vend-0mack both of Morrison, IL
She was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church and the church's Good Morning Circle where she served in various capacities. She was a 50+ year member and past president of Morrison Wa-Tan-Ye and a 50+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxillary.
She is survived by one daughter, Virginia (Mrs. Ted) Gapinski, Forreston, one son, James Kimmel, Jefferson, WI, three grandchildren, Alan (Keni) Gapinsky, James (Ann) Gapinski, and Kathy (Mrs. Tim) McGuire; eight great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Clara Kimmel, Colorado Springs, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal and one brother, Elwood Forward.

- The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Morrison United Methodist Church for L.L. "Butch" Kimmel, 52, of 205 Johnson St., Morrison, who died Friday in Morrison Community Hospital. The Rev. Dr. Lynn Longenbaugh will officiate. A 1:45 p.m. family prayer service will preceded the funeral in the church chapel. Visitation will be 2 to 5:30 and and 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Morrison Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, where a 7:30 p.m. Masonic service will be conducted. Burial will be in Grove Hill. Mr. Kimmel was born Aug. 19, 1938 in Clinton, to Boyd and Clara I. Tollenaar Kimmel. He was educated in the Morrison grade schools and was a 1956 graduate of Morrison High School. He attended Western Illinois University in Ma comb, received an associate degree in law enforcement at Saul Valley Community College in Sterling, and was a graduate of the FBI Academy at Quantico VA. He was employed by the Rock Falls Police-Fire Department for six years, was later employed with the Whiteside County Sheriff 's Dept. in charge of the Sterling office, where he served for four years. He was elected and served as sheriff of Whiteside County from 1970 to 1990, with his term expiring at midnight Nov. 30, 1990. He was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church, Rock Falls Masonic Lodge No. 936, Scottish Rite Valley of Freeport Consistory and the Tebela Shrine Temple of Rockford. He was the founder of the Whiteside County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol and was a past member of the Morrison and Rock Falls fire departments. He was a member of the Northern Illinois and Illinois State and National sheriff's associates. While in office, he organized and founded the Sheriff's Fishing Derby and the Whiteside County Youth Benefit Horse. He held numerous track records while at Morrison High School and helped organize and coached in the Morrison Junior Tackle Football program. He served as a coach on the Rock Falls Junior Tackle Football League and served as a little league baseball coach in Rock Falls for many years. Survivors included a daughter, Mrs. Kent (Pat Zuidema of Morrison; a son, Jeff of Marengo IL; six grandchildren; his mother of Morrison; a sister, Mrs. Leon (Kay) Vanderploeg of Morrison, Colo.' and a brother, John Kimmel of Tell City, Ind. He was preceded in death by his father. Death date: Nov. 30, 1990
LESTER LEE KIMMEL
, 70, a Morrison resident
for the past eight years, died at 2:10 p.m.
Sunday in the Morrison hospital where he had
been a patient for the past five weeks. The de-
ceased had been ill for about a year.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday in the Reynolds funeral home with
the Rev. James Hagerty, Methodist minister,
officiating and burial will be in the Grove Hill
Cemetery. There will be Masonic services at
the grave. The deceased was born at Ord,
Nebr., on June 4, 1886, the son of Alden and
Bertha Golden Kimmel, and was reared at
Walnut. On November 26, 1910, he was
married to Jennie Craddock at Tampico who
survives.
He was in the automobile business in
Chicago for about 35 years and came to
Morrison eight years ago when he entered
semi-retirement. He was an ardent horseman
and never missed a trail ride when health
permitted. He was a member of the Woodlawn
Park Masonic lodge of Chicago and transferred
to the Morrison lodge when he moved here. Besides his widow he is survived by two
sons, Neal and Boyd Kimmel of Morrison, five
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, a
brother, Claude A. Kimmel, of Gentry, Ark. and
a sister, Mrs. Frank Lyen of Omaha, Nebr. His
parents and three sisters preceded him in
death.
NEAL KIMMEL
- 82, of 101 N. Grape St., Morrison, died Tuesday, at Resthave Nursing Home.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Morrison Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Longenbaugh of Morrison United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where an 8 p.m. Masonic service will be conducted. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Kimmel was born Sept. 1, 1911, in Dubuque, to Lester L. and Jennie Craddock Kimmel. He married Kathleen L. Forward, Nov. 23, 1932, in Morrison, He was educated in the Chicago grade and high schools and owned and operated Kimmel Motor Sales and Service in Morrison from 1932 to 1957. He was then employed as an auto salesman in the Morrison and Sterling areas until retiring in 1973.
He was a member of the Morrison Masonic Dunlap Lodge 321 AF & Am; Order of the Eastern Star, Loyal Order of Moose, Clinton Lodge 363; and Morrison Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ted (Virginia) Gapinski of Forreston, Ill.; a son, James of Jefferson, Wis.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and nephews.

Burial was at Grove Hill Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Merle Grau, Keith Knox. Loren Olson, Burton Shambaugh, Edward Stuart, and Marvin Vos. Honorary casket bearers were Clifford Alldritt and Dale Bielema.
LOIS M. (TABER) KINER
- , 66, of 5170 Kiner Road, Prophetstown, died July 15, 1994 at Sterling Pavilion.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, Prophetstown, with the Rev. Melvin Hough officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Gardner Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to First Congregational Church.
Mrs. Kiner was born Sept. 5, 1927 in Prophetstown, the daughter of William L. and Grace (Paschal) Taber. She was educated in Prophetstown and graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1945. She married Roland D. Kiner July 14, 1946, in Prophetstown. Prior to her marriage she was employed in the office of the Illinois Department of Registration and Education in Springfield. She later served as manager of the Prophetstown Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. for 21 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of First Congregatonal Church, the Women's Fellowship, a member of the choir for many years, a member of the Prophetstown American Legion Auxiliary and the Prophet Hills Country Club.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jeffrey (Pen) Kiner of Tampa, Fla., and Jon (Judy) Kiner of Elyria, Ohio; six grandchildren; and one brother, Nelson (Phyllis) Taber of Cambridge.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Woolums.
LEONA MAE (McKEE) KINNAMAN
, 67, of Sterling died Saturday, April 12, 2003, after an extended illness. Mrs. Kinnaman was born Sept. 8, 1935, in Cleveland, Okla., the daughter of Jesse and Irene (Legier) McKee. She married Darwin Dean Kinnaman on June 7, 1974, in Flora. She was a member of Berean Baptist Church, Rock Falls. Survivors include her husband, three sons, Michael Persinger of Sterling, Steven (Lisa) Persinger of Flora and Allen Persinger of Toyko; four stepsons Mark (Sue) Kinnaman and Michael (Kelly) Kinnaman, both of Sterling, Daniel (Lori) Kinnaman of Hanover and Joseph Kinnaman of Peosta, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Denise (Albert) Garza of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her mother, Irene Howard of Ellwood; a sister, Betty (Don) Thompson of Ellwood; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father; three brothers; and a sister. The funeral is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Berean Baptist Church, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Al Lynn and the Rev. Roger Carlson, officiating. Burial is at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. There is no visitation. Arrangements were completed by McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
WILLIAM A. KNACK
- Services for William Am. Knack of Sterling, who died Thursday were held Saturday afternoon in the Rock Falls Lutheran Church with the Rev. Donald Comnick officiating. Burial was in
Oak Knoll Memorial Park.
Wayne Larson sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Heaven is My Home," accompanied by Mrs. Wayne Larson at the organ.
Pallbearers were Walter Schilpp, Carl Heinze, John Ryan, Ira Hendryx, Harry Kobbeman, and August Mohr, Mrs. Lorenzo Wescott, Mrs. Glenn Carroll, Mrs. CLyde Nelson and Swartley florists were in charge of flowers. Funeral arrangements were completed at the Melvin Funeral Home.
LEOTA (WILSON) KNOWLES
, of Civic Plaza Apartment, Rock Falls, died Wednesday morning (2 December 1970) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Verne (Florence) Turner at 1245 Brown Ave., Galesburg.
Funeral services will be Friday 3 p.m. at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. David Beebe, pastor of the First Christian Church of Rock Falls, officiating, and burial in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday.
Mrs. Knowles was born May 3, 1884 in Lakon, Ill., the daughter of James and Mary Scoggan Wilson. She was united in marriage Sept. 28, 1901 to Clarence Knowles. The couple farmed most of their married life retiring in Delavan, returning to Rock Falls in 1938.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Verne (Florence) Turner of Galesburg, Mrs. John (Theresa) Carpenter of Oregon and Mrs. Charles (Ruth) Nelson of Barrington; three sons, Chester E. of Galesburg, Guy A. of Tacoma, Wash., and John M. of Denver, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband Clarence on Nov. 23, 1949, two brothers and two sisters.
NORMAN KONNECK
, 57, of 309 W. Market St., Tampico, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at CGH Medical Center. Mr. Konneck was born in Spring Valley, the son of Charles and Anna (Poff) Konneck. He was united in marriage to Roberta Gerdes on Nov. 1, 1985, at Yorktown Lutheran Church. He was a 1961 graduate of Manlius High School and was a night shift supervior at Reliant Industries in Rock Falls for the past 16 months. He was an avid Dale Earnhart fan, loved to work on cars and tinker in the garage. He is survived by is wife, Roberta of Tampico; one son, Scott (Dana) Konneck of Sheffield; three stepsons, Leland (Diane) Downs of Rock Falls, Kenneth Downs of Sterling and Steven Downs of Rock Falls; his mother, Anna Konneck of Nashville, Tenn.; six granchildren; a sister, Chris Tarbuk of Nashville, Tenn.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bob and Jean Gerdes of Tampico; his brother-in-law, Chet Gerdes of Sterling; one niece; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father; and one sister, Marsha. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 2, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. Burial will be in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, March 1, 2001, from 5-8 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico.
MRS. RICHARD (PRATZ) KOOBS
- Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Richard Koobs, formerly of Sterling, in Texas last Tuesday. Services and burial were scheduled for today in San Antonio, Tex. Mrs. Koobs was born on Oct. 17, 1900, in Sterling, daughter of W. D. Praetz and the late Hannah Behrens. She attended Wallace school and Brown's Business College, and later went to work in Chicago. She was married to Richard Koobs of Pekin, Ill., in 1926, and moved to Texas 10 years ago. Survivors include her husbnd; three children, Richard, Jr., Carol and John; her father, W. D. Praetz; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Stevens of Sterling; and three brothers, John of Sterling, Fred of Lyndon, and William of Wilmington, Calif. She was preceded in death by her mother and a daughter, Helen.
SALLIE L. (SIMMONS) KURK
- 91, of Sterling , died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Kurk was born Sept. 3, 1916, in Philadelphia , Mo. , the daughter of Burdette Young and Nellie Gabe (Wood) Simmons. She married Edward H. Kurk on April 17, 1937, in Sterling . He preceded her in death on March 17, 1991. She was an active member of First Congregational Church of Sterling, holding several offices over the years. She was a member of the Whiteside County Extension for over 50 years, the Lee County Home Extension, a 4-H leader of the Elkhorn Lucky Stars, an active member of the PTA at Central School and a Girl Scout leader. She and her husband loved to travel and visited 49 states. Survivors include two daughters, Leona (Donald) Dirks of Sterling and Dora Jane (Claude Nugent) Kurk of Chicago; one sister, Marcie Leonard of Rock Falls ; five grandchildren, Gary (Linda) Dirks of Prophetstown, Christine (Greg) Gallentine of Sterling, John (Angel) Dirks, David (Rebecca) Dirks, Clarksville , Tenn. , and Juliann (William) Oswald of Stirling, Scotland; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
