AMANDA LANDIS
- Services for Mrs. Amanda Landis, 312 8th Ave., who died Saturday (04 May 1957)were held Monday afternoon at the Allen Funeral Home with Dr. Alfred L. Grewe officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Roscoe Eades played several organ selections. Pallbearers were Roy Shelley, Menno Long, Clarence Janssen, Al Breiding, LeRoy Thummel and Wayne Friedrichs. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Margaret Nesbitt, Mrs. Al Breiding, Mrs. Harry Wade, Mrs. Glenn Peterson and Swartley florists.
FAY LANDIS
, 85, of 22420 Pigeon road, Morrison, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at his home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Morrison, with the Rev. Dr. James A. Camp, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were completed by the Morrison Chapel of the Bosman-Renkes Funeral Home. Mr. Landis was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Rock Falls, the son of Elmer and Emma (Minssen) Landis. He graduated from Morrison High School and attended Wartburg College, Clinton, Iowa. He married Gertrude R. Huggins on Oct. 4, 1953, in Garden Plain. She survives. He farmed in the rural Morrison area his entire life. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Morrison. He authored a book of poems and wrote lyrics to the song “The Rock River Valley.” Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Ann (Perry) Clark of Freeport and Naomi Lee Kerkove of Fulton; a son, Ray (Marjorie) Landis of Davison, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson and two granddaughters.
BRENT A. LAW
, 39, of Loves Park died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford. He was employed as a home improvement contractor for several years.
Mr. Law was born Aug. 28, 1961, in Sterling, the son of Gerald and Fadra (Tedrick) Law.
CHAD ANTHONY LAW
, 17, of 1300 13th Ave., Rock Falls, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 1994, at St. Anthony's Hospital, Rockford. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Bernard Mullane, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the Grennan Funeral Home, Dixon, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. A memorial has been established.
Chad was born April 5, 1977, in Sterling, the son of Darrell D. and Kendra A. (Pro) Law. He was a senior at Newman Central Catholic High School. He was a member of the National Honor Society, was an Illinois State Scholar, Senior Class president, a member of the Newman State Champion Football Team, and was a participant in the Little League and American Legion baseball in Rock Falls.
Survivors include his parents of Rock Falls; one sister, Lisa Ann Law at home; his maternal grandparents, Rusty and Lou Pro of Rock Falls; several aunts and uncles; and a number of cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Nancy P. Law
CLIFFORD ELMER LAW
- Funeral services for Clifford E. Law, a former resident of Rock Falls who passed away early Monday morning at his home in River Grove, will be held Wedneday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Melvin Funeral Home. Rev. Ridell Kelsey, pastor of the First Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. The Masonic Lodge will conduct the graveside services. Friends may call at the Melvin Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Tuesday. The deceased resided at 501 9th Ave., Rock Falls, for many years. and was employed at the National Manufacturing Company for 21 years prior to moving to the Chicago area in 1943.
He was born Jan. 31, 1899 in Hume Township, Whiteside County, the son of Richard and Henrietta Delp Law. On June 30, 1927 he was married to Sylvia J. Brown in the Rock Falls Methodist Church parsonage. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Masonic lodge at Erie.
His wife survives as does one son, Bertram E. Law, Elmhurst; one brother, Tracy Law, Madison, Wis., and three sisters, Mrs. Eldon Purcell, Mrs. Harold Hummell, and Miss Jeanette Law, all of Wisconsin. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Darrell E. Law and Dale Allen Law, Elmhurst.
DONALD D. LAW
, 64, of Rock Falls died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at his home. He was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co., Sterling for 17 years. Mr. Law was born Oct. 18, 1940, in Rock Falls, the son of Lester and Lenora (Brown) Law. He served in the Navy. He married Charlotte Derrickson on July 22, 1962 in Rock Falls.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Christi Wilkinson and Kathy Hylton, both of Rock Falls; four brothers, Jim and Jerry Law, both of Rock Falls, Dave Law of Morrison and Ray Law of Washington state.; two sisters, Shirley Bushnell or Arizona and Betty Clark of Rock Falls; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jack & Bud Law.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald Allen Grenan Funeral Home, Sterling with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks, pastor of Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls, officiating. Burial is at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation is from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
ELIZABETH (PRILL) LAW
, 42, died at 1 p. m. Tuesday in her home at Oltman's cottages, after a long illness.Services will be held at 9 a. m., Friday in St. Mary's Catholic church, and burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial park. Mrs. Law was born July 25, 1904, in LaCrosse, Wis. She is survived by her husband, Samuel Law.
JACK G. LAW
, 52, 1309 West 6th St., Rock Falls, died Saturday morning in his home following a short illness. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Rebuck, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the Allen Funeral Home, Sterling, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday evening. A memorial has been established in his memory to the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Jack Law was born in Sterling on Feb. 18, 1932, the son of Lester and Lenora Brown Law. He was united in marriage to Glenna Short on May 31, 1952 in Oregon. He had been employed as an engineer for the last 29 years, first with Sedcon Corporation and then with Frantz Manufacturing Company following their purchase of Sedcon.
LESTER LAW
, 38, 110 West Thirteenth street, Rock Falls, passed away at 6:10 p. m. Monday In the Sterling Public Hospital after a short illness. He had been a patient there since last Saturday.
The body was removed to the Melvin funeral home where friends may call. Funeral rites will be held there at 2:30 p. m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Harry E. Shiffer of the Rock Falls Christian church. Interment will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park.
Mr. Law was born May 19, 1905, in Hume township, Whiteside county. For the past 11 years he had been employed at the Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. He was a member of the Tampico Christian church.
Besides his widow, Lenore, Mr. Law leaves seven children, Monroe, Jack, Jerry, Don, Ray and James all at home; his mother, Mrs. Etta Law of Tampico; four, brothers, John and Clifford of Rock Falls and Sam and Tracy of Tampico and three sisters, Mrs. Eldon Pursell of Muscoda, Wis. Mrs. AIice Hummell of Rock Falls and Miss Jeanette Law
MONROE LESTER LAW
, 62, of 600 E. Sixth St., Rock Falls, died Sept. 23, 1992, in his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on 2 p.m. Friday at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Dennis Shaw, pastor of Como Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Law was born June 8, 1930, in Tampico, the son of Lester Charles and Lenora Darlene (Brown) Law. He was a plumber for many years prior to his retirement in 1982. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling.
He is survived by his mother, Lenora Meek of Sterling; one son, Michael Monroe Law of Heyworth; one daughter, Terri Jean Moses of Sterling; three grandchildren; five brothers, Gerald L., Donald D., and James M. Law of Everett, Wash., and David L. Law of Morrison; two sisters, Mrs. William (Betty) Clark of Rock Falls, and Mrs. Lyndell (Shirley) Bushnell of Tempe, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Jack J. Law.
NANCY (REVIS) LAW
, 75, of 609 Civic Plaza I, Rock Falls, died Friday evening in CGH Medical Center, Sterling. Private services will be held at a later date. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Local arrangements were completed by the Allen Funeral Home in Sterling.
Mrs. Law was born Sept. 8, 1914, in Ramsey, the daughter of Charles and Lilly Rhodes Revis. She had been a hostess at the Miami Hotel Lounge in Sterling for 14 years and had worked at the Frantz Manufacturing Co. in Sterling for a number of years prior to her retirement.
She is survived by three sons, Richard L. Finn, California; John C. Law and Darrell D. Law, both of Rock Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Lynn P. Rajnowski, Sterling; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
SAMUEL ARTHUR LAW
passed away 10:15 p. m. Monday in the home of his brother, John Law, in Rock Falls, following an illness of the past year. The body rests at the Melvin funeral home where funeral arrangements are being completed.
Samuel A. Law was born Aug. 31, 1900, in Hume Center, Ill., son of Richard and Henrietta Law. He was united in marriage with Elizabeth Prill July 26, 1926, at Muscoda, Wis. She preceded him in death three years ago.
Surviving Mr. Law are three brothers and three sisters, Clifford Law of Chicago, Tracy Law of Fenton, John Law of Rock Falls, Mrs. Eldon Purcell of Milledgeville, Mrs. Harold Hummell of Muscoda, Wis. and Miss Janet Law of Tampico, and his mother, Mrs. Henrietta Law of Milledgeville. Mr. Law's father preceded him in death, also one brother, Lester Law.
2nd Notice - Funeral rites for Mrs. Samuel Law were held Friday morning at 8:30 o'clock in the Melvin lneral home and nine o'clock in St. Mary Catholic church. The Rev. Leo Ambre officiated and interment was in Oak Knoll Memorial park. Bearing the casket were Lawrence Boyles, Gene LaVere, Dale Conkling, Wilbert McDowell, John Rajnowski and Forrest Alexander. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Hazel Hummell and Mrs. Sherman Brown.
SYLVIA (BROWN) LAW
, 61, 2820 N. Struckman St., River Grove, Ill., passed away Thursday evening in Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, Melrose Park, following an extended illness.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1901 in Rock Falls, the daughter of John and Fanny Diamond Brown and was a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary in Sterling. She was married to Clifford E. Law in June of 1927.
Surviving are one son, Bertram Law, Elmhurst; three sisters, Mrs. Evelyn McIlnoy, Chicago; Mrs. John (Dorathy) Kyger, Rock Falls, and Mrs. Edith Poor, Coolidge, Ariz.; also two grandsons, Darrell and Dale Law of Elmhurst. One brother, Burt Brown, and her parents preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Melvin Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ridell Kelsey, pastor of Brookfield Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Friends may call at the Melvin Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Sunday
TRACY "RICHARD" LAW
, son of John D. and Dorothy Lowry Law, was born Oct. 14, 1866, at Smithsburg, Md., and passed away Oct. 6, 1936, at the age of 69 years,11 months and 22 days, at his home in Tampico. He was one of a family of 13 children, he spent his early life in Maryland, coming to Sterling, Ill., when 20 years old.
He was united in marriage to Etta Delp of Prairieville, Aug. 31, 1897 at the M. E. church in Dixon. To this union were born eight children, all of whom survive. They are Clifford E., Lester C., Mrs. Eldon Purcell and Mrs. Alice Hummell, all of Rock Falls, Samuel A. of Yorkville, John D. of Glenview, Tracy E. of Tampico, and Janet in the home; two sisters Emma and Rebecca of Smithsburg, Md., numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. They made their home in Prairieville for a time, later moving to Hume Center. March 1, 1910 the family moved to Tampico, where they have since resided.
KEITH E. LESTER
, 89, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at his home. He was in the local carpenters union for over 50 years specializing in floor covering.
Mr. Lester was born April 1, 1917 in Rock Falls, the son of S. Lloyd and Edna (Eshleman) Lester. He married Edith M. Noon March 1, 1941 in Rock Falls. She preceded him in death April 29, 2001. As a corporal in the US Marine Corp he served during WWII in the Asian Theater. He was a 50 year member of Rock Falls Christian Church.
Survivors are two sons, Roger (Joan) Lester of Forsyth, Paul (Daretta) Lester of Blytheville, AR; five grandchildren Mark (Katie) Lester, Jeffrey Lester, Kimberly (Eric) Benting, Hollie (Mark) Bosarge, Heidi Lester; and three great-grandchildren Hailey and Whitney Benting, and Andrew Lester.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth White and a brother, John.
Services will be held at 10 A.M Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend April McClure Stewart of First Christian Church of Rock Falls officiating. Burial will be 1 P.M. Thursday with Military Rights at the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7, Tuesday, January 30th at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
NOEL DEN LITTLE
, 70, of Tampico died Friday, July 30, 2004 at CGH Medical Center. He was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co., Parish Alford Plant, Rock Falls, for 33 years until retiring. Mr. Little was born Nov. 10, 1933, in McLeansboro, the son of Noble Jackson and Kathleen (Williams) Little. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Marjorie Purkapile on July 14, 1956, in Rock Falls. He attended Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls, and enjoyed pitching horseshoes and bowling.
Survivors include his wife: two daughters, Rose (Randy) Miller of Saline, Mich., and Debbra Little of Tampico; three sons, Paul (Mary) Little of Marion, Iowa; John Little of West Frankford and David (Lisa) Little of Tampico; two sisters, Eloise (Jim) Hamilton of Monticello and Phyllis Gleason of Brookfield, Mo.; three brothers, Kenneth Little of Loveland, Colo., Larry (Sherry) Little of Ocala, Fla., and Roger (Linda) Little of Corinth, Texas; four grandchildren and a great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Klockenga; and two brothers, Randal Little and Shelby Little. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks, pastor, officiating. Private family burial is at Tampico Cemetery. Visitation is from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements were completed by McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Falls.
GEORGE N. LIVINGSTON
of rural route one, Sterling, died at 4:30 am Thursday at his farm
home eight miles southwest of Polo. The body was taken to the Melvin funeral home at Polo. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday at the funeral home. The Rev. Eugene Moore, pastor of East Jordan BUB church will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the church.
He was born in Eagle Point township, March 4, 1867, the son of George and Virginia Landis Livingston. He married Mary McFayden Aug 31, 1895. She died in 1944.
Survivors include six sons, Guy of Tullahoma, Tenn; Washington, Max and Howard of Sterling; Glen and Claude of Polo; one daughter, Marie at home, and 18 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant daughter, three brothers and one sister."
LILLY VIRGINIA (HOFFMAN) LIVINGSTON
passed away Thursday evening, August 18, at the Milledgeville hospital following an illness of about a week's duration. Death was caused by an infection. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the East Jordan church and burial was in the East Jordan cemetery.Mrs. Livingston, who was a daughter of the late Stanton Hoffman and wife, was born in Hagerstown, Md., March 9, 1909, coming to Polo with her parents seventeen years ago. She was married to Claude Livingston on Sept. 13, 1926, and is survived by her husband and an infant son, Claude, Jr. Her mother, Mrs. William Powell, two sisters, Miss Goldie Hoffman and Mrs. Evelyn Pott; and four brothers, Howard, Donald, Robert and Wayne, all of Polo, also mourn her passing."
MARIE I. LIVINGSTON
, age 94, passed away on May 1, 2004 at the Polo Continental Manor in Polo, IL. She was born on May 13, 1909 in Sterling, IL to George N. Livingston and Mary McFadyen Livingston. She was married to Bill Haase. The marriage ended in divorce. They had no children. Marie was a licensed practical nurse. She is survived by a nephew, Ivan Livingston, of Polo and numerous other nieces and nephews. Grave side services were conducted on May 4, 2004 at 11:00 am. Rev. Kyeong-Ah Woo officiating. Interment was at East Jordon Cemetery. Arrangements by Benson Funeral Home.
MARY (McFAYDEN) LIVINGSTON
passed away at her home in Jordan township at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 1944, following a stroke of paralysis suffered 4 weeks ago. She was born in Goven, Scotland, Nov 3, 1874 and came to America with her aunt at the age of 12 years.She was married to George N. Livingston in 1895. They lived for a few years in Iowa moving back to this community in 1900. She became a member of the East Jordan United Brethren church as a girl of 14 years of age.She had not been in good health for more than 30 years. As a young mother, she was faithful to the work and services of her church and brought her children regularly to its services. She has been deprived of the privilege for a number of years because of her failing health. She was a member of the Woman's Missionay Society and the Sunday school alumni.She was keenly interested in world events and kept posted on current news. She greatly appreciated the kindness shown to her and recently spoke of the singing of Christmas carols by the young people of the community.She is survived by her husband, six sons, Glenn at home, Washington of Sterling, Claude of Polo community, Max of Sterling, Guy of Kansas, and Howard of Rock Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Marie Haase at home.She was preceded in death by one daughter, Elsie Irene, who died in infancy. She is also survived by two sisters and one brother in Scotland, one sister Mrs. Jacob Gatz of Oregon, Ill; and aunt, Mrs. Helen Haines of this community; 19 grandchildren; four great-grand-children and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
