RUTH QUAYLE
- Died--At the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Snyder, Fulton, Ill., april 29, their niece, Ruth Quayle, of Omaha, Neb., at the age of sixteen years, one month and eight days. Ruth was the older of two daughters which comprised the family of charles S. and Elizabeth Noble Quayle, well known to Fulton people, where Mrs. Quayle was born and grew to womanhood. Ruth was born in Rock Island March 21, 1901. The family moved to Omaha.
BETTY JEANNE (DETRA) QUICK
, 41, 1421 Bennett Dr., Rock Falls, died shortly before noon Sunday (18 April 1971) at Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Evangelical Congregational Church, Rock Falls, with Rev. Gerald Davison, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. R. W. Tauberheim, pastor of the Evangelical Congregational Church, Johnstown, Pa. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to lie in state until the hour of services. Mrs. Quick was born on April 20, 1929 in Morrison, the daughter of Charles Russell and Arids Mae Conrady Detra. She was united in marriage to Albert C. Quick, Sept. 7, 1946 at North Augusta, S.C., while Mr. Quick was serving in World War II. The couple moved to Malvern for a couple of years and then to Rock Falls. She was employed by General Electric at Morrison three years prior to her illness. She was a past president of the Dillon School PTA, a member of the Fairview Evangelical Congregational Church in Rock Falls, and had been a Den Mother for several years. Mrs. Quick is survived by her husband, Albert C.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Detra, Prophetstown; two daughters, Mrs. William P. (Debra K.) Weed, Anchorage, Alaska where she is with her husband stationed in the U.S. Army and Miss Barbara Ann at home; three sons, Allen K., Rock Falls, Michael E., a student at Illinois State University at Normal and Charles R., Rock Falls; four sisters, Mrs. Virgil (Thelma) Darlyn and Mrs. Donald (Shirley Lou) Boehms, Lyndon; Mrs. Perry (Audrey JoAnn) Bulhous, Moline, and Mrs. John (Beth) Abbadusky, Country Acres, Rock Falls; two brothers, Carl Russell, Prophetstown and Larry Eugene, Kewanee and one granddaughter, Michelle Lynn, Anchorage, Alaska.
EARL H. QUICK
- An 81 year old Sterling native passed away in a Detroit hospital on Aug. 14, 1967. Earl H. Quick, Detroit, died just one week after his daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Vera) Duro had died. Earl Quick was born in Sterling on Sept. 26, 1885, the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Quick. He attended Lincoln School and Sterling High School. He was married to Glenna Smith and they were the parents of two children, Mrs. Duro and Mrs. Roberta Yott.
His survivors include his widow, Glenna; Mrs. Yott; and several grandchildren. In addition, two sisters, Mrs. H. B. Shirk of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and Mrs. Harry Maxfield of Sterling also survive.
HERBER QUILTER
, 86, 104 West St., Ohio, died (16 Sep 1984) Sunday afternoon at St. Anthony's Hospital, Rockford. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with the Rev. Gene Gebhardt, pastor of the First Christian Church, Walnut, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Church, Ohio. Visitation will be on Monday from 3 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been establilshed in his memory. Herbert Quilter was born on Aug. 7, 1898 in Illinois, the son of Joseph and Catherine Landers Quiltler. On Oct. 13, 1944 he married Frances Scallan in Ohio. He was a self employed painter prior to retirement. He was a U.S. Navy WW I Veteran and was in the U.S.Army during WW II. He was active in the Ham Radio Association. Surviving are his wife, Frances, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Thom (Susan) Hunt, Lena; one grandson, Lena; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Britt and Mrs. Catherine Eggebercht, both of Sterling and Mrs. Virginia James, Burbank, Calif. Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters and six brothers.
THOMAS H. QUIMBY
, 69, of Yorkville, passed away at his home Friday Feb. 25, 2005. He was born Feb. 11, 1936 in Sterling, the son of Harold & Ruby Quimby. Tom was retired from Sealmaster Bearing, Aurora and served his country in Korea with the US Army. He was a member of the Batavia Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sterling Moose Lodge. Tom as a devoted grandpa to his grandsons. Spending time with them was precious to him, and he loved sharing stories of his youth with them. Tom is survived by his two children, Thomas L. of Oswego and Rhonda R. West of Yorkville andhis grandsons Gerald R. West and Carie Mason of Sandwich and Thomas Michael West of Yorkville. Tom was blessed with the birth of his first Great-Grandson in August of 2005.. Gerald R. West III. He is survived by his sisers Dovie Lathey, Gladys Foss, Lula Portner, Joy Prescott and Mina Buckingham; and his brothers Gerald and Charles. He was preceded by his parents; sisters Ceola Holcomb and Clara Finkle; and brother Harry Agnew and Leslie Quimby. There will be no formal service. Creamation arrangements are being handled by Dieterle Memorial Home, Montgomery.
ANNA QUINN
, Word was received here Thursday of the death of Miss Anna Quinn of Chicago at the home of her nieces, Misses Margaret and Helen Quinn, in that city. Death was caused by heart trouble and was sudden and unexpected. Miss Quinn was born in Round Grove about 70 years ago, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Quinn. Mr. Quinn was one of the first station agents employed by the Chicago and Northwestern railroad. He served in that capacity for many years at Round Grove. Miss Quinn resided in Sterling and has many friends here who will be sorry to learn of her death. She was a sister of Mrs. D.J. Barry of 506 Avenue C. Mr. and Mrs. Barry will go to Chicago to attend the funeral services Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McCue, Mr. and Mrs. Jack McCue will also attend the obsequies.
