ROSCOE ROSE
, Erie, Ill., Dec. 28 (Special) -
Reclue Found Frozen To Death In Bed At Home - Faithful Dog Was Alongside His Body, Opposing Entrance To House
The body of Roscoe Rose, who was found dead in bed at his home near Hillsdale on Wednesday, (23 Dec 1925) was brought to Erie and taken to the Turner and Slaymaker undertaking parlors, and late Thursday afternoon an inquest was held by Whiteside county coronor Frye, who found that cerebral hemorrhage was the cause of death.
The man lived alone, with a dog as his sole companion. The house is situated on a twenty acre farm off from the road, and on account of its isolation, he had not been missed by those living in that part. He had not been seen by those living nearest for some time and an investigation was made. Looking through a window, Mr. Rose was seen lying on his bed with the dog beside him. Breaking open the door, the men went in, but the faithful dog would not permit them to get near the bed at first. He was finally called away, and put out of doors. It was found the body was frozen, death evidently having taken place several days previous.
Mr. Rose was a recluse, and had lived in that locality for many years. He was about eighty years of age, and very little is known of his life, with the exception that he was unmarried and without relatives in this part, so far as is known. Burial was made in the Erie cemetery Saturday morning, with a short service, conducted by Rev. J. C Yemm, pastor of the M. E. church.
