DORA (VANDERSCHAAF) VALK
, 94, Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, died Saturday at Harbor Crest. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma Funeral Home with Dickson Rothwell, intern pastor at the First Reformed Chuch, Fulton, officiating. Burial will be in the
Fulton Cemetery. VIsitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Radio Broadcast Fund of the First Reformed Church, Fulton.
Dora Valk was born in Garden Plain on Jan. 8, 1889, the daughter of John VanderSchaaf and Henrietta Housenga and was educated in rural Whiteside County schools. On May 25, 1909 she married Frank Valk in Fulton. He preceded her on Dec. 20, 1959. She farmed with her husband in the rural Whiteside County area and then moved to Fulton, residing at 1516 4th St. Since 1978 she has resided at Harbor Crest Nursing Home. She was a member of the Helping Hands Society, the Ladies Aid Society, and the First Reformed Church of Fulton.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Albert (Helen) Poel and Mrs. Leonard (Etta) Feldt, both of Fulton, Mrs. Harold (Jeanette) Bush, Morrison, and Mrs. Jenny Geerts, Chadwick; one son, Dick Valk, Morrison; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Frida Vandermyde, Morrison; and one brother, Dick VanderSchaaf, Austin, Minn.
VAN DELLEN, Floyd B. - Services for Floyd Van Dellen, age 84, of Fulton were held today (Wednesday, November 3 at 103:30 a.m. at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Rev. Phillip Sneller, Pastor of the First Reformed Church and Chaplain of the Fulton Police Department officiated. Burial was in the Fulton Cemetery with graveside military honors. Casketbearers were Justin Van dellen, Jared Van Dellen, Kurt Van Dellen, David Naftzger, Ryan Marcum, Matt Marcu, Tyler Geerts and Tatum Geerts. Honorary casketbearers were Bradley Tegeler. Organist was marguerite Clark who played "In the Garden", Old Rugged Cross" and "Wind Beneath my Wings" was sung by Deb Geerts and Amanda Medema. He was born March 11, 1920 in Fulton, the son of Elmer and Elizabeth (Ottens) Van Dellen. He was educated in the Fulton grade schools and was a graduate of Fulton High. On July 2, 1941 he married Jenouise Van Dyke in Fulton, and later married Dorothy L. Marcum on August 18, 1961 in Clinton. He served in the US Marines during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post 402, the WHiteside County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol, the Fulton Saddle Club, the IL State Stock Horse Assoc., was a member andpast fire chief of the Fulton Fire Dept., was a trustee of the Fulton Fire Protection Dist. and he enjoyed horses and trail riding. He owned and operated Van Dellen Greenhouses in Fulton and was later employed as a patrolman by the Fulton Police Dept., he was a deputy with the Whiteside Co Sheriff's Dept. and also drove school bus for the FUlton School District. He retired from the Sheriff's Dept in 1985. Folowing etirement he was employed by Potter's Greenhouse in Clinton Iowa. He is survived by two daughters Karen (Paul) Naftzger of Albany and Marcia (Pete) Feller of Fulto; two sons, Boyd (Phyllis St. Ores) Van Dellen of Fulton and Michael Van Dellen of Fulton, 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie (Fred) Pell of Morrison and Isabelle (Herbert) Benson of Morrison and special friends Leo, Deb, Tyler and Tatum Geerts. ,75, passed away suddenly at his rural fram home Wednesday morning. Funeral services will held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Gardner Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Preston Wood officiating. Burial will be in Lyndon Cemetery. Mr. VanderLeest was born Aug. 13, 1894, the son of Joseph and Annie Damhoff VanderLeest, in Fulton. He attended school in Round Grov;e. He had farmed in the area for 50 years. He is survived by one brother, John, Morrison. Friends may call at the chapel Thursday evening.
ALLENE F. VAN DYKE
,72, Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown, formerly of 516 W. South St., Morrison, died Sunday at the Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pp.m. on Wednesday at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Lemmen, pastor of the Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison, officiating. Burial will be in
Cemetery, Grove Hill Morrison. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Allene VanDyke was born on May 12, 1911 in Union Grove Township, the daughter of Claus and Lena Oostenryk VanDyke. She attended rural Whiteside County Grade Schools, was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant Township High School and attended the Northern Illinois Teachers College, DeKalb. She was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison, and the Morrison Ya-Tan-Ye Club. For 45 years she taught in Whiteside County schools retiring in 1975. She resided in Morrison until 1979 when she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.
Surviving are two brothers, Louis VanDyke and Paul VanDyke, both of Morrison. Preceding her in death was one sister.
MABEL (STEVENS) VAN GIEDER
, age 89, Civic Plaza, died Thursday. There will be no services, the body was donated to science. Blair Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. VanGieder was born May 11, 1906, in Como, the daughter of Thad and Lille Kline Stevens. She married Charles VanGieder on Feb. 24, 1926. He died in 1975. Mrs. VanGieder was a member of the World War II Mothers #145, the Dixon Musicians Unit #525, and the First Christian Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Betty) Smith of Silvis; one son, Charles Jr. of Edwardsville; 17 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter; and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Zirkle of Bloomington. She was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, and one daughter, Lois Bartz, in 1972.
IRENE (IRION) VAN OSDOL
, 76, of 401 E. Main St., Morrison, died Thursday (8 January 1987) at Morrison Community Hospital. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Morrison preceded by a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service at the church. Rev. George McIlrath, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison. Visitation is Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Lincolnway Chapel of the Bosma Funeral Home, Morrison. A memorial has been established in her memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Morrison and the Morrison Area Ambulance Association. Mrs. Van Osdol was born on Aug. 23, 1910 in Ustick Township, the daughter of George and Lavina (Hammer) Irion. She was united in marriage to Robert Van Osdol Sr., on Jan. 12, 1938 in Morrison. She was educated in the Morrison grade schools, was a 1929 graduate of Morrison Hospital and a graduate of Jane Lamb School of Nursing of Clinton, Iowa. She was employed as Superintendent of Nursing at Morrison Community Hospital. She and her husband owned and operated Van Osdol Radio and TV in Morrison, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morrison where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was a lifelong resident of Morrison. She is survived by her husband, Robert St., two sons, Robert Van Osdol Jr. of Morrison; and John A Van Osdol of Sterling; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brotheers, Russell and Lawrence Irion.
SHARON R. VAN OEVER , 64, of 105 W. Wall Street, Morrison, IL, died Sunday, July 30, 2006 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. Sharon was born June 5, 1942, in Waukegan, IL, to Peter John and Marion G. (Bonn) VandenOever. She was educated in the Zion IL grade schools, and graduated from Zion Benton High School in 1960. She was retired from UPS, and later had worked for R.C. Smith in Morrison. She enjoyed her horses, which she kept boarded at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds. She was a member of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Morrison. Survivors include one daughter, Jodi (Mrs. Tom) Myers of Brookfield, CT; one son, Chuck (Pam) Ohmstead of Lombard, IL; three grandchildren, Jasmine Myers, Michael and Kevin VanOever; one brother, Jon (Charlotte) VanOever, of Sun City, AZ. Sharon is survived by many other family members and many close friends including Margaret Wilson. Sharon will be missed dearly by all that knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents. OTTO VAN VUREN , 92, of 17070 Ebson Road, Fulton, IL, died Sunday, May 20, 2007 at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton. Otto was born in Fulton, IL on April 13, 1915. His parents were Peter and Alice Stuit Van Vuren. He grew up in the rural Fulton area and attended Fulton schools. He served in the Civil Conservation Corps in 1933, in the state of Oregon. He was an U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving as a lineman in the Signal Corps . He was stationed on the Island of Guam for a year. Otto married Thelma Dykhuizen on March 31, 1943 in Fulton. He was employed by the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad for 35 years as a carman, retiring in 1977. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, and was a 60 year member of American Legion Post 402 in Fulton. He belonged to the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen - #6429. Survivors include his wife, Thelma; one daughter, Rheba (Mrs. Darwyn) Guler of Rockford, IL; two sons, Stephen Van Vuren of Clinton, IA and Russel Van Vuren of Henderson, NV; five grandchildren, Daniel Van Vuren, Natalie (Ryan) Jackson, Dana (Peter) Dlugosch, Andrew Guler and Christopher Van Vuren; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Molly Ann Van Vuren; one sister, Mrs. Mae Neubauer of Clinton, IA; one brother, Robert (Viola) Van Vuren of River Forest, IL; many nieces and nephews. , 10, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles VanWassenhove of Deer Grove, Route One, died this morning after an extended illness. The body rests at the Grennan and Son Funeral Home and there will be no visitation. Private funeral services will be held and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Surviving with his parents are four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Patrick (Kathleen) Reeser, of Ottawa, Mrs. Thomas (Christine) Joyce of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Rita and Paul at home. He also leaves his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Hannah Schauff of Rock Falls. Preceding in death were a sister, Mary and two brothers, Frederick and Charles. Thomas J. BERTRAND VAUGHN
, 93, died early Monday morning at the Morrison Community Hospital where he had been a patient for three weeks. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Gardners Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Boxwell officiating. Friends may visit Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the chapel and a Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m.
Bertrand Vaughn was born Feb. 7, 1879 at Port Wayne, California. He had lived in the Lyndon area for 81 years. He was the son of Charles and Alice Hutchinson Vaughn. He was educated in Lyndon schools and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Lyndon Congregational Church. He married Edith Klutas of Lyndon and the couple lived all their married life there. He was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and two sisters.
GEORGE ELIOT VAUGHN
, 80, died Sunday morning (22 Oct 1961) in the Morrison Community Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past seven dayis.
The body is at the Gardner Funeral Chapel in Prophetstown where friends may call. Funeral services will be conducted in the Lyndon Congregational Church Tuesday at 2 p.m. the Rev. Nelson Chasteen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Lyndon Cemetery.
Mr. Vaughn was born June 23, 1881, in Port Wine, Calif., the son of Charles and Alice Hutchison Vaughn. He attended the Hillsdale schools. He was a member of the Lyndon Congregational Church. Survivors are one brother, Bert J. Vaughn, Lyndon; two sisters, Mrs. Rex Glazier, Lyndon, and Mrs. Mabel Rice, Morrison. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

, 89, of 120 16th Ave., Fulton, died Friday, Jan. 19, 1996 at Finley Hospital, Dubuque, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Fulton, with the Rev. A memorial has been established to Trinity Reformed Church, Fulton. Mrs. Venema was born Nov. 7, 1906 in Clinton,Iowa, the daughter of George and Elizabth (Howard) Healless. She married George D. Venema Aug. 21, 1934 in Clinton, Iowa. She was educated in Clinton grade schools, Clinton, Iowa. She was employed as a seamstress. She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, Fulton. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Sandra (Robert) Foster of Fulton; one son, Ronald Venema of Fulton; four grandchildren, Michael (Cristi) Foster, David Foster, Daniel Foster and Matthew Foster; and one sister, Marian (Melvin) Drews of Clinton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Johnson, Gertrude Subcleff, and Genevieve Schultz; and one brother, Robert Healless.
LORETTA (LANTINGA) VENEMA , 81, of Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL, formerly of Clinton, IA, died Sunday, August 6, 2006 at the nursing home. Loretta was born June 9, 1925 in Garden Plain, IL, to Rinkie and Jennie (Decker) Lantinga. She married Harry Venema on April 4, 1969 in Clinton, IA. He died February 19, 1999. Loretta was employed at General Electric in Morrison, IL for 19 years. She was a member of Community Reformed Church in Clinton, IA and the church’s Guild. She also was a member of the Helping Hand Society of the First Reformed Church in Fulton and Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary in Clinton, IA. Survivors include one niece, Phyllis (Mrs. Michael) Picolotti of Savanna, IL; two great nieces, Jennifer Picolotti of Boscobel, WI and Brianne Picolotti of Crystal Lake, IL; one great nephew, Ryan (Heather) Picolotti of Genoa, IL; one great great niece, Morgan Picolotti and one great great nephew, Payton Picolotti. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; two sisters, her twin in infancy and Hazel Buikema; three nieces in infancy. Burial in Fulton Cemetery. ROBERT J. VENEMA , 73, of 9464 Spring Valley Road, Fulton, IL, died Monday, June 11, 2007 at his home. Bob was born August 7, 1933 in Newton Township, IL, to George J. and Annie (Huizenga) Venema. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a Fulton High School graduate. He married Ruth M. Bielema on August 28, 1953 in Fulton. Bob was engaged in farming in the rural Fulton area. He then was employed as an electrician in Morrison and later owned and operated Fulton Electric and Refrigeration in Fulton. Following that, he was employed by Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA as assistant director of maintenance and most recently, he worked for Superwash in Fulton. Bob was a member of Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton, where he was serving as an elder and had served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sound system technician. He had served on the executive committee as an elder for Classis of Illinois-Reformed Church in America. He was well known as a vocalist for many different events, including weddings and funerals. He was Past President and member of the Fulton High School and Riverbend School boards. He was also charter member of the Board of Directors of the former Health Services Employees Credit Union in Clinton. He enjoyed being out of doors and cutting and splitting firewood. He also truly enjoyed the fellowship of family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; his stepfather, Renzie Buikema of Morrison; three sons, Randy (Linda) Venema of Fulton; Jeff (Bobbie) Venema of Sterling, IL; and Mike (Paula) Venema of Bettendorf, IA; eight grandchildren, Shelly (Mrs. Chris) Foley, Brian (Dori) Venema, Nathan Venema, Brad Venema, Katie Venema, Whitney Venema, Tyson Venema, and Alex Venema; four step grandchildren, Amanda Helm, Shayna Guinn, Logan and Dalton Manley; three great grandchildren, Jillian Venema, Evan Foley, and Cole Venema; seven step great grandchildren, Brianne, Izayah and Jaykob Wood; Jaden, Landen, and Tori Guinn; and Makayla Pritchard; two sisters, Mildred "Pinky" (Mrs. Vernon) Van Dyke of Rock Falls, IL and Mary Jean (Mrs. Leroy) Wiersema of Sterling, IL; four step sisters, Esther (Mrs. Gerald) Hamstra of Morrison, IL, Janice (Mrs. Tommy) Patten of Morrison, IL Shirley (Mrs. Doug) Borop of Rockford, IL and Beth (Mrs. Steve) Wroble of Morrison, IL; two brothers, Donald "Doc" (Corliss) Venema of Morrison and Calvin (Paula) Venema of Geneseo, IL; one step brother, Allen (Hope) Buikema of Morrison, IL. JEANE VILMAN
, - age 88, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, in Freeport Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. at the Grennan and Sons Funeral Home, with requiem mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Hubert V. McGinn, grandson, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Vilman is survived by one son, Joe, Harvard; one daughter, Mrs. Jeanette McGinn, DeKalb; seven grandchildren.
BERNIE VOSS
, 78, of 2938 Stagg Road, Thomson, died on Thursday, April 29, 1999 at the Samaritan Hospital North in Clinton, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 3, 1999 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Dr. Calvin J. Rynbrandt, Pastor of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison officiating. Visitation was from 4 to 7 PM on Sunday, May 2 at the funeral home in Fulton. Burial was at the Fulton Township Cemetery.
Mr. Voss was born on April 3, 1921 in Morrison to Ralph and Alina (Lichtenberg) Voss. He was educated in the rural Lincoln Grade School, graduated from Morrison High School in 1939 and attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri.
He married Eloise M. Dykstra on January 7, 1949 in Thomson.
He served in the US Army during World War II. He worked in the Office of Price Administration in Washington, DC and following military service was engaged in farming in the rural Morrison and Thomson areas.
He was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church of Morrison and was a current member of the Tri-County Board of School Trustees. He served as a director for the Carroll County Soil and Water Conservation District for 22 years and was a retired committee member of the Farm Services Agency. In addition, he served two terms on the Farmers Home Administration Board and was a leader of the York Cedar 4-H Club for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise Voss of Thomson; four sisters, Sylvia Bush of Erie, Jeanette Johansen of Plainview, Nevada, Jean (Robert) Copeland of Ontario, California, and Carolyn (Bill) Vance of Salana Beach, California; two brothers, Mathew (Vela) Voss of Dallas, TX and Titus (Shirley) Voss of Clinton, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Leoda Ratkin and a brother, Clarence Voss.
CHRISTINE (VANDERMYDE) VOS , age 84, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at her home. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick, Illinois. Reverend Dave Davies will be officiating. Inurnment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Christine's name to Christian Children's Fund, World Vision or Rock River Hospice, 264 IL Route 2, Dixon, Illinois 61021. Christine was born in Mora, Minnesota on October 6, 1922, the daughter of John and Christine (Wilkens) Vandermyde. She graduated from Edison High School with the class of 1939 and later went to Cosmetology School in Rockford, Illinois. Christine married DuWayne Vos on April 24, 1942 in Morrison, Illinois. Christine worked at General Electric for eighteen years. She was a longtime member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, Illinois where she also taught Sunday School. She was a member of Home Extension and served on the Carroll County Council on Aging Board. She enjoyed painting, gardening and spending time with her family. Mr. Voss was born May 23, 1916 in Albany, the son of John and Jennie (Newendyke) Voss. He was educated in Fulton schools. He was employed as a wire cutter at Fulton Corporation. He was a member of the First Reformed Church, Fulton, Fulton Lions Club, and an honorary member of the Fulton Fire Department.
Survivors include one brother, Seymour (Velma) Voss of Rochelle, and five sisters, Winnie Huizenga and Pauline (Frank) Dykstra both of Fulton, Cora Hartman of Savanna, Henrietta Hartman of Clinton, Iowa, and Jeanette Wagner of Arlington, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Parks and Henrietta Voss in infancy; and three brothers, James Voss, Harold Voss, and Harry Voss in infancy.
JENNIE (NEWENDYKE) VOSS
, 82, Fulton, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Clinton, Iowa.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Reformed Church with prayer service preceding at 10:45 a.m. at the chapel. The Rev. William Hoffman will officiate and burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. at the Bosma Funeral Home.
Mrs. Voss was born at Fulton Nov. 7, 1888, the daughter of Jabbes and Winnie Haan Newendyke. She married John Voss on Sept. 5, 1908, who died June 5, 1954. She was a member of the Ladies Missionary Society, the Helping Hand Society, and the First Reformed Church of Fulton.
Survivors include six daughters: Mrs. Walter (Esther) Clark, Marion, Iowa; Mrs. Fred (Winnie) Huizenga, Morrison; Mrs. Willard (Cora) Hartman, Savanna; Mrs. Henrietta Hartman, Clinton, Iowa; Mrs. Wayne (Jeanette) Wagner, Prophetstown; and Mrs. Frank (Pauline) Dykstra, Fulton; four sons, James, Tucson, Ariz.; Seymour, Stewart; Harold, Moline, and Jacob, at home; 30 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 5 step-great granchildren; and one great great grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Buikema, Fulton.
She was preceded by her husband, one son, one daughter in infancy, seven grandchildren, four great granchildren, four brothers, and five sisters.
LUCY (VANDER VINNE) VOSS , 85, of Fulton, IL, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, IA. Lucy was born June 9, 1923 in Newton Township, IL, to Martin and Gertie (Buikema) Vander Vinne. She was educated in the Byers Grade School of rural Whiteside County. Lucy married Allan J. Voss on March 18, 1954 in Fulton, IL. She was employed by the former Clinton Garment Company in Clinton, IA for 44 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Fulton, a member of the church choir, and of the church's King's Daughters Ladies Society. Lucy enjoyed cooking and baking for friends and neighbors. Survivors include her husband, Allan; nieces, Paulette (Frank) Walston of Fulton, IL; Debbie (Tom) Pratt of Erie, IL; nephews, Gerry Vander Vinne of St. Charles, IL; Paul (Pam) Vander Vinne of Morrison, IL; Harold (Kathy) Vander Vinne of Morrison, IL; and Marion (Karen) Vander Vinne of Fulton, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Paul and Donald Vander Vinne.
