It is from an Evansville firm.--A difficulty occurred at the Spiller coal mines last Saturday in which a few brickbats and pistol shots were exchanged. One ESERY and his partner, ---------, attacked James HOOPER with pistols, threatening speedy destruction. HOOPER represents that he was on the defensive, and a few well aimed brick bats put to flight his assailants leaving him in possession of the ground and the teams of the attacking parties, both of whom lived in Franklin County. One ball passed through HOOPERs shirt and grazed his shoulder. --It is not a boy at Marsh PHILLIPS but a girl. Thats all.--Mrs. L.D. PHILLIPS died in this city last Sunday evening. He entered the house and stepped out of the back door and has not since been seen. Young men learn to control your tempers.
HERRINS PRAIRIE ITEMS.--The congregation at the Baptist church was disturbed last Sunday by a difficulty between Charlie HERRIN, James BRADLEY, and one Joseph SMITH, HERRIN commencing the fuss with SMITH, and BRADLEY helping him (HERRIN) out. It all resulted in loud talking, with no blood drawn. Someone got out a warrant for SMITH for disturbing the peace but the officer failed to catch him. How the other two escaped without a warrant for their arrest is a mystery to the sober-minded. But I suppose the answer to the riddle is an old one: Two were well connected, and the other was without stamps-but does that satisfy the demands of justice.
