LOCAL MATTERS.--Two of Greenwood NORMANs oxen were killed by lightning last Saturday. --The buildings on the Wm. HENRY place, two miles northeast of Marion were destroyed by fire last Friday. The premises were occupied by Mr. SWAFFORD.--The funeral of Martin E., son of Dr. M.M. MCDONALD, Crab Orchard, will be preached at Liberty, Franklin county, on the first Sunday in July, by Revs. C.E. CLINE and R.W. LAUGHLIN.--Rev. C.W. HUTCHISON attended the funeral of Mrs. CORLY at Mt. Pleasant church, near Crab Orchard, last Sunday. A very large congregation was in attendance. --Dr. Joseph HUNTER, of White County, late of Williamson county, was in Marion last Monday, he visited the Williamson county medical association while here.

LOCAL MATTERS.
--The funeral of Archibald CLARADY will be preached at Pleasant Grove church the 4th Sunday in July, by Elders KING and HEARN. Deceased died Dec. 20, 1876. B.E. CLARADY.--An incident which is supposed to be contrary to nature in now a matter of fact in this city. A cat recently brought a litter of kittens, and by some means killed them while quite young, and captured a young rat and is now suckling and raising it. John DAVENPORTS says the cat and her adopted rat is at his house living in harmony together. Truly this is a day of reconciliation. --One by one the boys return, and ere long Williamson county will not be represented in Deadwood. First to return was W.J. AIKMAN, who was soon followed by Brice HOLLAND, and last Sunday evening we are informed TEAGUE dropped anchor at his old mooring. The exact time is not yet known when the few vet remaining out will report back their starting place but it is evident the time is not far distant. It has always been thus. There is no place like home.--G.W. YOUNG resigned the office of Justice of the Peace and L.D. HARTWELL was appointed by the County Commissioners to fill the vacancy last week.
MIDDLETON MUSINGS.--Mr. Jerry ADAMS has gone to Cobden to pick berries.--The aged and venerable Jas. M. TURNER, better known as Uncle Jim is our guest this week. Many happy hours have we spent in this good mans company. --The funeral sermon of Able C. DAVIS will be preached at Coal bank on the fourth Sunday in this month by Elders KING and CALDWELL.

CRAB ORCHARD CHIPS.--W.A. MCHANEY esq. and lady, of Harrisburg, were visiting relatives and friends in Crab Orchard recently.--The funeral of Mrs. CORLEY and Mrs. WICKS were preached Sunday the 3rd inst. at M. Pleasant church by Rev. C. HUTCHINSON, and notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather a very large congregation assembled to hear the sermon, which was fascinating and instructive. --The funeral of Edmund, son of Dr. MCDONALD and lady, will be attended to by Rev. CLINE, at Liberty in Franklin county on Sunday the 1st day of July. Rev. LAUGHLIN will assist. --W.A. CORDER and lady, of Corinth, are visiting Crab Orchard. Mr. CORDER, we understand, will repair the boiler to Peter CROSSLEYs mill while here. --The dead is alive! Hugh STORRET, recently reported dead, has turned up alive; this seems like a miracle.
LOCAL MATTERS--The young folks had a party at the residence of Dr. BUNDY, last Saturday night, and a pleasant time is reported. --One HARRIS, a colored man, east of Marion, has 15 acres of wheat which good judges say will average 30 bushels per acre. We consider this a good crop.--Leona WHITE is seriously ill.--Mr. J.B. and Mrs. Sarah J. EDRINGTON last week sold their residence property on West Main street to George H. MITCHELL for $800.--Will WESTBROOK has been confined to his room for the past two weeks with pneumonia, but is convalescent at present. --Mr. Laban CARTER, Carterville, was with us Monday last. He says the intention is to have a good time on the 4th. He also informs us that Mr. BRYDEN, of the C.C. & C., who has been sick for several weeks, is improving in health. Br. BRYDEN is quite a social gentleman and a prominent man in the company.--Elder BOLES is rapidly improving in health, and his recovery is assured. --J.M. BURKHART was confined to his room this week with fever of a remitent nature.--Miss Fannie FELLOWS has secured the school in District No. 6, in the Ray settlement, for the coming winter term. Miss Parle VICK will teach this winter in the Ogden District, and Gip MCINTURFF will teach the school north of Crab Orchard. He will be at home from College about the middle of August.

MIDDLETON MUSINGS.--Mr. E.J. TURNER has a new Buckeye. His son Lon knows just how to use it. By the way Lon is a clever young man.--Tis with pain we chronicle the sad death of Mrs. TURNER, wife of our esteemed friend and fellow citizen, Mr. L.H. TURNER, which occurred on the 14th inst. We tender to the bereaved husband, relatives and friends our heartfelt sympathy, feeling that the husband has lost a devoted wife, the parents a kind and dutiful daughter, and her children a loving and affectionate mother. --Tom TANNER is the boss of our blacksmith shop, and is an energetic wide-awake young man. Tom knows just what the farmers need.
