Dear Sirs: Inclosed please find my application for admisson to said home, also my pension certificate #567772. I desire to say further that my discharge papers are with my son in TN and I have written him today for them and I will bring them with me when I come if I am admitted to the home. Benjamin F Greer

Know Ye, that Benjamin F Greer a Sgt of Capt George W Morris Company A, Det 7th Regiment of TN Cav, Volunteers, who was enrolled on the first day of Oct one thousand eight hundred and Sixty two to serve three years or during the war, is hereby Discharged from the service of the United States this ninth day of August 1865, at Nashville, TN by reason of Information from wounds (no objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist), Said Benjamin F Greer was born in Benton Co in the state of TN, is Thirty Six years of age, five feet, ten inches high, fair complexion, Blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation, when enrolled a farmer. Given at Nashville, TN this ninth day of August 1865

Enrolled 01 Oct 1862 in Benton Co, TN in Co A 7th TN Cav, discharged on 09 Aug 1865 in Nashville, TN. Pension # 56772 for $10 per month from the Chicago Pension Office. He owns property of about $300. His occupation is laborer. He has no wife and 3 children, ages 48, 45 & 42. His postal address is Cottage Home, IL and the nearest RR is Makanda, Jackson Co, IL. Person to notify for death or illness is AN Greer of Cottage Home, IL. He has not been in a home before this. He is disabled by Rheumatism and heart disease and is now unbale to earn a living. Signed 30 Jan 1902 by Benjamin F Greer and witnessed by JHB Renfro. (note: on the side it says made out by a lawyer)

Cert of Local Physician: found to have Rheumatism and disease of the heart. by Dr JL McAnally, 31 Jan 1902

Cert of Soldiers Home Surgeon: (done) 14 Feb 1902, finds him of sound mind and to be capable of earning a living, alleged rheumatism and heart disease. Upon careful physical examination I find no discernible heart lesion of any kind. Dr DM Landon.
