Funeral services for James L. Baker, 52, of Starlight, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church in Starlight, with burial in the church cemetery. He died Sunday of natural causes while on a hunting trip near Milltown. He was a native of New Albany, a driver for Riverside Petroleum Co. in New Albany and a member of St. John Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, the former Ann Jeanette Smith; two sons, Michael J. and Samuel L. Baker, both of Palmyra; a daughter, Beth A. Kane of Georgetown; his mother, Martha Baker of Floyds Knobs; and two sisters, Jane Hoff of Mansfield, Ohio, and Donna Staser of Floyds Knobs. Funeral services for Leanne Margaret Baker, the three-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Funeral services for Eva Zimmerman Banet, 106, of Floyds Knobs, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. She died Tuesday at her home. She was a native of Clark County and a member of Secular Franciscans. Survivors include five sons, Arthur Banet of St. Petersburg, Fla., Bernard and T. J. Banet, both of New Albany, and Irvin and Odell Banet, Floyds Knobs; two daughters, Amelia Leist of New Albany and Marietta Gesenhues, Floyds Knobs; 44 grandchildren; 101 great-grandchildren; and 40 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Robert J. Banet, 68, of Lanesville, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. He died Tuesday at his home. He was a native of Floyds Knobs, a retired supervisor at Henry Vogt Machine Company in Louisville and also formerly owned and operated the B & M Market in Lanesville. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville and also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He had served as Grand Knight of Faithful Navigator of the Harrison County Council Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, the former Juanita Rochner; a son, Robert Banet Jr. of Lanesville; three daughters, Vickie Meredith and Deborah McDaniel, Lanesville, and Sheree Banet, Clarksville; a brother, Elmer Banet, Illinois; two sisters, Martha Gesenhues, Floyds Knobs and Ethel Book, New Albany; and two grandchildren. A funeral Mass liturgy for Wilfred F. “Tommy” Banet, 80, of Floyds Knobs, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. He died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services. “Tommy” was a life-long resident and native of Floyds Knobs, and served as the Floyd County Indiana Assessor from 1977 until his retirement in 1994. He was a former employee of the old Hoosier Panel Company in New Albany. He served on the Floyd County A.B.C. Board, and was a member of the Redmen Club, Knights of Columbus in New Albany, Floyds Knobs Community Club, Floyd County Conservation Club, American Legion Post in Floyds Knobs, and St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. Survivors include his children, Donald “Donnie” Banet, Floyds Knobs, Gerald “Moe” Banet and his wife, Donna, Indianapolis, Cheryl Banet Ducharme and her husband, Dan, Georgetown, Terry “Spud” Banet and his wife, Cindy, Memphis, David “Doozey” Banet, Floyds Knobs and Robin Banet Seamon and her husband, Dave, New Albany; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Maurice Banet and his wife, Marilyn, Floyds Knobs, Clarence “Joe” Banet and his wife, Marilyn, Floyds Knobs, Merle Banet and his wife, Faye, New Albany and Larry Banet and his wife, Donna, Floyds Knobs; sisters, Aileen Banet, Floyds Knobs, Norma Andres and her husband, Irvin, Floyds Knobs and Martha Moore, Clarksville. Belinda K. Gettelfinger Bartley, 52, of Sellersburg, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. She was the daughter of Raymond and Dorothy Gettelfinger of Floyds Knobs. Funeral arrangements are pending at this time. Funeral services for Belinda K. Gettelfinger Bartley, 52, of Sellersburg, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary of the Knobs Cemetery. She died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005. She was a 1971 graduate of Providence High School and attended Indiana University Southeast and Ivy Tech State College. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Sellersburg and a former member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, Floyds Knobs. She worked for ESSROC Cement Co. for 15 years as a purchasing manager and was currently employed by United Parcel Services SCS as a procurement coordinator. She was a member of the Purchasing Management Association of Louisville and NAPM, was certified from Alex Adams Modeling Agency in Louisville and was involved in many community and church activities. The daughter of Raymond L. and Dorothy Schmidt Gettelfinger, she was born July 24, 1953 in New Albany. Survivors other than her parents, a sister, Barbara Beach and husband, Chris, Floyds Knobs; three brothers, Dennis and wife, Becky, David and Duane Gettelfinger, all of Floyds Knobs; her fiancée, Dave Purcell; three nieces; and two nephews. Funeral services for Irene Mary Kruer Batliner, 92, of New Albany will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. She died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000 at Green Valley Care Center. She was a native of Floyds Knobs, a retired licensed practical nurse for the old St. Edward’s Hospital, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the church Altar Society. A funeral Mass for Arthur A. "June" Bierman Jr., 75, of Floyds Knobs, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. He died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital in New Albany. He was born in Floyds Knobs on Dec. 24, 1928, the son of the late Arthur A. Bierman Sr. and Lillian (Banet) Bierman. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He received a bachelor of science degree from Purdue University and was retired from General Electric Company in Louisville. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hobart Beach Post 1693 in New Albany, the American Legion River City Post 42 in Floyds Knobs and a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Julia C. (Beach) Bierman; two daughters, Carol J. McLean and husband, Howard and Annette M. Lipps and husband, Artie, both of New Albany; two sons, Gregory A. Bierman, D.D.S., Mooresville, Ind. and Gary J. Bierman Sr. and wife, Barbara, Floyds Knobs; three brothers, Merrel, Lewis and Frank Bierman Sr.; a sister, Patsy Egler; and 11 grandchildren. Arthur A. Bierman Sr., 84, R. 1, Floyds Knobs, died at 4 a.m. today at his home. Bierman was a native of Floyds Knobs and an active farmer in the area. He served on the Floyd Knobs Council for 36 years and was a charter member and former director of the Clark County REMC. Survivors include his wife, the former Lillian Banet; four sons, Merrel, Arthur Jr., Lewis and Franklin Bierman Sr., all of Floyds Knobs; one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Egler, Floyds Knobs; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Naville, Floyds Knobs; 37 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass for Julia C. Bierman, 74, of Floyds Knobs, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. She died Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany. Julia was retired from PNC Bank and was a life long member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. She was born in Greenville on March 17, 1932, to the late Covert and Clara (Kiesler) Beach. Survivors include two daughters, Carol J. McLean and her husband, Howard and Annette M. Lipps and her husband, Artie, both of New Albany; two sons, Gregory A. Bierman D.D.S., Mooresville and Gary J. Bierman Sr. and his wife, Barbara, Floyds Knobs; four brothers, Herman Beach and his wife, Mary, Louis Beach and his wife, Virginia, Robert Beach and his wife, Ann and William Beach and his wife, Juanita; two sisters, Sr. Catherine Beach O.S.B. and Kathleen Kruer and her husband, Roy; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Arthur A. He died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. He was an Army veteran, a retired mechanical engineer at International Harvester in Louisville, a scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 64 in Edwardsville and a member of Edwardsville United Methodist Church and the Georgetown Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, the former Bonnie Lockman, New Albany; two sons, Michael C. Blasdel, Greenville, and James C. He died Thursday at Clark County Memorial Hospital. Blum, a native of Austria, was a former resident of Louisville. He was a retired mechanic at Perkins Motor Company, an Army veteran of World War I and a member of American Legion Post 220. Mrs. Joseph Book, 89, of near Starlight in Clark County, died at St. Edward’s Hospital this morning leaving 105 direct descendants. She was the former Elizabeth Roberts. A lifelong resident of Clark County, she was a member of St. John Church, Starlight, the Altar Society of the church, and the Third Order of St. Francis. Survivors include seven sons, Ernest Book, Jeffersonville; John, Leo and Louis Book, all of Floyd Knobs; Laurence and Herman Book, both of Louisville, and Edward Book, Bradford; three daughters, Mrs. Zita Neihoff, Clark County, and Misses Mary and Hilda Book, both of Indianapolis; three brothers, Joseph Roberts, Louisville; John F. Roberts, Floyds Knobs, and Frank Roberts, Farmer City, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Rose Klein, Kansas; 29 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren. He was a chief engineer of the Louisville-Jefferson County Air Pollution Control Board from its inception in 1952 until his resignation in 1969. His role with the agency gave him a seat on the Kentucky Clear Air Commission. He was a native of Tarentum, Pa., and a member of the National Association of Power Engineers, Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, the former Anna F. A funeral Mass for Dennis Herman Bowe, 80, of Floyds Knobs, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at St. Joseph Hill Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. He died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at the VA Medical Center in Louisville. He was the son of the late George and Julia Johanna Zimmerman Bowe, born March 18, 1925, in Clark County. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was owner of Bowe Christmas Tree Farm for 40 years and retired from American Standard Company. He was a member of St. Joseph Hill Catholic Church in Sellersburg, and was a member of St. Joseph Hill’s Chapter of the Shepherds of Christ Association. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ellen (Jacobi) Bowe; six children, Julie Schindler Withers, Elizabeth, Janice Butler and her husband, T. Mary Jo (Reitzel) Brodfuehrer, 77, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany, She was a past member of the Hoosier China Painters of New Albany and an Advanced Porcelain Artist. She was born March 25, 1929 in Louisville, to the late Fred and Rose Helen Haneke Reitzel. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Kenneth Brodfuehrer; two sons, Steve Prentice and Bernie Brodfuehrer; a daughter, Claudia Kays; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Martin and Richard Brodfuehrer. Cremation was chosen upon her request with no visitation. She will be entombed at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. Peter Bellis,aged 79, probably the best known in Jeffersonville,
died early this morning at his home in this city. Three children,
2 sons and 1 daughter survive him. The deceased was for many years
chief deputy, successively in this city and county treasurer’s offices,
and in this way became known to almost everyone in Clark County.
