HANKA

 

Mrs. Agnes Koopman Hanka, 68, Borden, died at 3 p.m. Thursday at her home. She was a native of Floyds Knobs and a member of the St. John’s Starlight Church. Survivors are her husband, Earl Hanka; four daughters, Mrs. Martha Kiesler, Scottsburg, Mrs. Anna Marie Miller, Anderson, Mrs. Joann Sullivan, Pekin, and Mrs. Evelyn Miller, Salem; three brothers, George and Henry Koopman, both of Floyds Knobs, and John Koopman, Illinois; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Huth, Illinois, and Mrs. Lena Fosskuhl, Anderson; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Earl Hanka, 73, R. 1, Borden, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. He died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home. Hanka, a native of Clark County, was a farmer. He was a member of the St. John Catholic Church. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Martha Kiesler, Scottsburg, Mrs. Anna Miller, Anderson, Mrs. Joann Sullivan, Pekin, and Mrs. Evelyn Miller, Salem; his mother, Mrs. Ida Hanka, Floyds Knobs; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Mathies, Louisville, and Mrs. Magdalena Snyder, Borden; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. HARBESON

 

 

A funeral Mass for Gary Charles Harbeson, 48, of Georgetown, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville, with burial in the church cemetery. He died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at his home. He was born on Aug. 16, 1959 in Floyd County. He was a 1978 graduate of Floyd Central High School. He earned an associate degree in culinary arts at Northwood Institute in West Baden, a bachelor of arts degree in education from Indiana University Southeast and a masters degree in education from the University of Louisville. He was a culinary arts teacher at Western High School in Louisville and was a member of the Georgetown Optimist Club where he sponsored the Jr. World of Golf. He was a member of the Board of Highlander Youth Recreation in Georgetown and was an umpire and chief for District Five Little League and he was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville. Survivors include his wife, Becky Falk, Clarksville; his parents, Lamoine and Mary Ann Rochner Harbeson, Georgetown; three brothers, John Harbeson and his wife the former Debbie Huber, Sellersburg, Vincent Harbeson and his wife the former Kathy LeMaster, Greenville and Eric Harbeson, Georgetown; a sister, Jane Weber and her husband, Kenny, Georgetown; nieces and nephews, Melissa Harbeson, Floyds Knobs, Keith Harbeson, Little Rock, Ark., Annie Harbeson, Greenville and Taylor Harbeson and Stephen and Justin Weber, all of Georgetown. Visitation at the Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown, will be today, Wednesday, March 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday. HARVEY

 

 

Funeral services for Charles Harvey, 53, of 623 Ohio Ave., Sellersburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Garr Funeral Home, with burial in Graceland Memorial Park. He died Sunday at Floyd Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Jeffersonville and an employee of Colgate-Palmolive Company. He was a member of Sellersburg United Methodist Church, a basketball coach at the Clark County YMCA and for the sixth-grade team at Stout Elementary School and a baseball coach for Sellersburg Little League. Survivors include his wife, the former Dixie Roberson; two sons, Dave and Toby Harvey, both of Sellersburg; two daughters, Kathy Jones and Robin Gentry, both of New Albany; two stepsons, Ken and Jeff Roudenbush, both of New Albany; a stepdaughter, Teresa Colvin of Louisville; his mother, Mary H. Harvey, Jeffersonville; three brothers, Carl Harvey of Floyd Knobs, Joe Harvey, New Albany, and Floyd Harvey, Jeffersonville; two sisters, M. Jane Wilson of Charlestown and Marydell Jenkins of Bethlehem; and six grandchildren. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. HESS

 

 

Funeral services for Orman M. Hess, 65, of New Albany, will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Albany, with burial in the church cemetery. He died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services. He was a native of Harrison County and worked at the Double Seven Tire Service for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Survivors include three brothers, William Hess and wife, Margaret, New Albany, Jerry Hess and wife, Barbara, Corydon, Jay Hess and wife, Debbie, Palmyra; and a sister, Mary Ann Hess, Jeffersonville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Beach Hess; his parents, Sylvester “Bill” and Eulah Hess; his daughter, Diann Hess; and a sister, Judy Wibbels. Visitation at Oak Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann and Naville Funeral Homes, will be from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 6. Funeral services for Pauline P. Hess, 65, of New Albany, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Albany, with burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of New Albany. She died Saturday May 5, 2007, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services. She was the former Pauline P. Beach, a native of Floyd County. She was a long time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of New Albany. Survivors include her husband, Orman M. Hess; a brother, Ernest Beach and wife, Mary Alice, Lanesville; three sisters, Virginia Schuck and husband, Joe, Bradenton, Fla., Margaret Hess and husband, Bill, New Albany and Eleanor Zurschmiede and husband, Bill, New Albany. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mary Kiesler Beach; and a daughter, Diann Hess. HIGDON

 

 

Funeral services for Joseph E. Higdon, 74, of Otisco, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Sacred Heart Church, Jeffersonville, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at Green Valley Care Center, New Albany. He was a native of Louisville and retired from the U.S. Air Force. He had been employed as the head grounds keeper for New Albany and Floyd Central ball fields and was a member of Hobart Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1693 and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include three sons, Richard J. Higdon, Jeffersonville, Norman L. Higdon, Goose Creek, S.C. and Donald W. Higdon, Callahan, Fla.; four daughters, Angela M. Barr, Otisco, Mary E. Lowe and Christa L. Snyder, Jeffersonville and Sheila A. Price, Lanesville, two brothers, James R. Higdon, Terre Haute and Robert Higdon, New Salisbury; a sister, Mary Barr, New Salisbury, 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, J. Richard Higdon, David Higdon and Michael Higdon and a sister, Geraldine Winter. Funeral services for Gilbert Hisle, 71, of New Albany, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Home, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Floyd Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Berea, Ky. and a retired maintenance machinist for Philip Morris USA in Louisville. Survivors include his wife, the former Betty M. Scharrer; a son, G. Brian Hisle, Lanesville; a daughter, Terri Boutin, Borden; three sisters, Frances Cockril, Elizabeth, Gladys Murphy, Clarksville and Viola Isaacs, Erlanger, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 12. HOTTELL

 

 

Funeral services for Edna H. Hottell, 96, of Georgetown, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown, with burial in Wolfe Cemetery. She died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany. She was born in New Albany on March 17, 1911, the daughter of Augustus and Alice Rusk Rochner. Along with her husband, she was the co-owner and operator of their dairy business. She was the oldest living graduate of Georgetown High School from the class of 1929 and was also a professional basketball player for Georgetown in 1929 and 1930 where she was paid five dollars per game. She was a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church formerly the E.U.B. Survivors include a son, Kendall L. Hottell and his wife, Georgia, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Darla Herthel and her husband, Ray, Georgetown; five grandchildren, Rhonda Smith, Starlight, Gary Welsh, Pleasureville, Ky., Scott Hottell, Angola, Todd Hottell, Brownsburg and Lora Reihl, Fishers; and eight great grandchildren, Matt, Nathan, Mindy and Nicole Smith, Jeff and Kari Hudson and Mason, Abigail, Luke and Madison Hottell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Kendall Augustus Hottell. Visitation at the funeral will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Funeral services for Kendall A. Hottell, 90, of Clarksville, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home, Georgetown, with burial in Wolfe Cemetery, Georgetown. He died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Westminster Health Care Center, Clarksville. He was a native of Harrison County, a retired dairy farmer and a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Georgetown. Survivors include his wife, the former Edna Rochner; a daughter, Darla Welsh; a son, Kendall L. Hottell; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Charles F. Hubbs, 82, will be at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Paul Church, Tell City, with burial there. Hubbs, a former railroad station agent at Corbin, Ky., died at 11:30 p.m. Monday in his home on Gutford Road, Jeffersonville. Surviving are two sons, Charles T. Hubbs of Tell City, and Clarence G. Hubbs of Louisville; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Beller of Jeffersonville, and Mrs. Joan Eaton of Louisville; a sister, Mrs. Jennie K. Brenner of Arlington, Va., 28 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Carl T. Huber Sr., 57, of R. 1, Borden, died at 4 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Infirmary, Louisville. A farmer, he was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Men’s Club of the church. Surviving are his wife, the former Marcella Stumler; six sons, John D. Huber, Borden, Robert Huber, Chicago, Kenneth Huber, Jeffersonville, Gerald, Stephen and Carl T. Huber Jr., all at home; two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Jacobi, Palmyra, and Miss Elaine Huber, at home; one brother, Joseph Huber, Borden; three sisters, Mrs. Herman Gettelfinger, Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. John Book, Floyd Knobs, and Miss Rosalena Huber, New Albany; and 11 grandchildren. A funeral Mass for Marcella Stumler Huber, 95, of Starlight, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Starlight, with burial in St. John the Baptist Church Cemetery. She died Monday, July 17, 2006, at Providence Retirement Home, New Albany. She was a homemaker and life-long member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The daughter of the late William and Lena Hanka Stumler, she was born Jan. 25, 1911, in Starlight. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Huber; a son, Robert W. “Champ” Huber; and five brothers, Elmer, Edward, Lester, Leo and Jerome Stumler. Survivors include her children, John D. Huber and his wife, Phyllis, Jeffersonville, Gerald E. Huber and his wife, Mary Jeanne, Sellersburg, Carl L. Huber Sr. and his wife, Linda, Starlight, Kenneth L. Huber and his wife, Judy, Louisville, Kathleen A. Jacobi and her husband, Phil, Sellersburg, Elaine A. Sprigler and her husband, Bill, Floyds Knobs and Steven T. Huber and his wife, Teresa, Floyds Knobs; a sister, Martha King and her husband, Nova, New Albany; 25 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass for Paul Huber Sr., 78, of Floyds Knobs, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. He died Thursday, July 14, 2005 at his home. He was a Marine veteran of World War II and a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church where he was one of the first lay lectors. He was a retired employee of Wayne Supply Company in Louisville. Paul was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer and loved the outdoors. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Rosalie; sons, Mike (Vicki), Gary (Debra) and Mark (Lisa), all of Floyds Knobs, and Paul Jr. “Skip” of Buford, Ga.; a daughter, Debbie (John) Harbeson of Sellersburg; brothers, Norbert and Joe Jr. of Starlight, John “Larry” of Louisville, and David of Clarksville; sisters, Sister Rosemary, Maryknoll, N. Y., Doris “Bitsy” of Atlanta, Ga., Cecilia “Chee-Chee,” Fairfield, Conn., Carol, Indianapolis, and Sister Kathy, Ferdinand; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles. Visitation at Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, will be Saturday, July 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, July 17, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be a rosary and prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
