Funeral services for George M. Packwood, 69, of 2201 Shelby St., New Albany, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kraft Funeral Home, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Monday at Humana Hospital University of Louisville. He was a native of Floyd County and a retired employee of Colgate-Palmolive Company in Clarksville. Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Caudill of Jeffersonville; his mother, Juanita Packwood, Jeffersonville; a sister, Betty Jean Brock of Jeffersonville; and a grandchild. Visitation at the funeral home will be until 9 p.m. Tuesday. George W. Packwood, 34, of 511 St. Joe Road East, Sellersburg, died Thursday at his home. He was a chemist for Englehart Company in Louisville and a member of the Free Gospel Church in Underwood. Survivors include his father, George M. Packwood, Sellersburg; his stepmother, Norma Packwood, Sellersburg; a sister, Kathleen Caudill of Jeffersonville; a half-brother, Joe Kiesler, New Albany; two half-sisters, Mary Byerly of New Albany and Helen Stiltz, Jeffersonville; and his grandmother, Juanita Packwood, Jeffersonville. Norma J. Graf Packwood, 70, of Sellersburg, died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at her home in Depauw. She was a native of Mauckport and a retired caregiver. Survivors include four sons, Stanley W. and Michael N. Hammack and Toot and Gary T. Graf; four daughters, Carla Inojo, Susie Graf and Cindy and Jackie Hammack; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The body was cremated. Charles E. Paris, 76, of 324 W. Brooks Ave., Clarksville, died Thursday at Clark Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Leitchfield, Ky., retired from American Air Filter in Louisville and a Marine veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, the former Viola F. Lumpkins; four sons, Kenny Paris of New Albany, Larry and Jim Paris, both of Jeffersonville, and David Paris of Clarksville; two daughters, Ann Castleman and Nancy Banet, both of New Albany; two sisters, Norma Rettig of Warren, Ohio, and Anita Nicholson of Dumfries, Va.; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Viola F. Lumpkins Paris, 85, of New Albany, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, New Albany, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville. She died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Autumn Woods Health Campus with her family by her side. She was a housewife, worked at the Army Ammunition Plant and was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. The daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth Hall Lumpkins, she was born July 27, 1920, in Clark County. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Ed” Paris; brothers, Ralph Morrison and Maurice Lumpkins; a sister, Rose Meyer; and a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Paris. Survivors include her children, Kenneth Paris, Larry Paris and his wife, Mimi, Ann Castleman and her husband, Jimmy, David Paris and his wife, Bobbi, Nancy Banet and her husband, Patrick and Jimmy Paris and his wife, Carole; sisters, Louise Cain and Jean Bottorff; brother, Garland Morrison; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was a native of Greenville and an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5625 Ladies Auxiliary, Moose Lodge 325 of Fanning Springs, Fla., Fraternal Order of Eagles of Cedar Key, Fla., and American Legion Post 42, Floyds Knobs She was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Chiefland. Funeral services for John F. Paul Jr., 71, of Chiefland, Fla., will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Chiefland, with burial in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. He died Thursday at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville. He was a native of Jeffersonville, a retired machinist from Colgate Palmolive Company and a member of Chemical Workers Local 15 of Jeffersonville. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the 303rd “Hell’s Angels” Bomb Group, and American Legion Post 42, New Albany. He was also a member of the honor guard of V.F.W. Post 5625, American Association of Retired Persons, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 9957 of Chiefland, Fla. Survivors include his wife, Bernice Kiesler Paul; five sons, Stephen Paul of Floyds Knobs, Dennis Paul of Tallahassee, Fla., Eric Paul of Greenville, Christopher Paul of Georgetown and Nick Paul of Chiefland; a daughter, Melissa Sutton of Hagerstown, Ind.; a sister, Ella Mae Fricker of Jacksonville, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. John F. Paul Sr., 64, a patternmaker for the American Car & Foundry Company, passed away Sunday morning, at 2:10 o’clock, at his residence, 310 Illinois Avenue, following an illness of one week. Mr. Paul was a native of Clark County and had made Jeffersonville his home for fifty years. He was a member of the Knights of St. John, belonged to the Improved Order of Red Men Lodge, the Catholic Community Center, New Albany; the Holy Name Society and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cecelia Reisz Paul; three daughters, Mrs. William Hutt, Sellersburg, Mrs. Charles Gedling and Miss Ella Mae Paul, both of Jeffersonville; two sons, John F. Paul Jr., U.S. Army Air Corps; and Robert C. Paul, Great Lakes, Illinois; a brother, Albert Paul, Louisville; four sisters, Mrs. John Meeks, New Albany; Mrs. Howard Boaz, Indianapolis; and Mrs. Gertrude Marshall, Louisville, and six grandchildren. Mrs. Mary Leona Pepper, 63, wife of William F. Pepper, 414 East Chestnut Street, passed away Friday afternoon, at 1:48 o’clock, at St. Joseph’s Infirmary, Louisville, following an illness of six weeks. Mrs. Pepper was a native of New Albany and had made her home in Jeffersonville for the past 21 years. She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church. Besides her husband, survivors include two sons, E. Dumont Pepper and Eugene Pepper, both of New Albany; two daughters, Mrs. A. P. Long, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Mrs. J. W. Craddock, Jeffersonville; two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Jacobus, Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. Henry Burton, Indianapolis; a brother, Thomas Smith, Indianapolis; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, at two o’clock, from the Coots Funeral Chapel, and at 2:30 o’clock, at the First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Kenneth Neuber officiating. He died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at his home. He was the son of the late Charles H. and Elizabeth Kuper Peterson. He was born in New Middleton, retired from American Synthetic Rubber Company in 1976, was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of VFW Post 3281. Survivors include his daughter, Maxine F. Mittel and her husband Rick, Jeffersonville; two sons, John F. Peterson and his wife, Sandy, Starlight, and Charles J. Peterson and his wife Debbie, Sellersburg; a sister, Angela M. Brown, Galena; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret E.
