BROOKS, Levi H.  Died May 14, 1947, Alton, Indiana.

Alton - Levi H. Brooks, son of Lyman and Rosey Brooks, was born on October 28, 1888, near here, and died unexpectedly at his home on May 14, at the age of 59 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War 1. At the time of his death, he was serving as trustee of Boone Township.

On March 20, 1918, he was married to Stella Mead, of Perry County. To this union was born: Robert, Ivan, Mildred and Joseph.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, a sister, Elsie; a brother, Samuel, and a son, Robert, who was killed in World War II, in action on Bataan, Philippine Islands.

He is survived by his wife and four children, Mrs Robert Fullenwider, of a former marriage; Ivan, Mildred and Joseph, all of Alton; two brother, Hiram Brooks, of Alton, and William Brooks, of Cape Sandy; two sisters, Mrs Bertha Purcell, of Bacon, and Mrs Rachel Campbell, of Alton; also six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Alton Baptist Church on Sunday, May 16. Burial was in Orchard Knob cemetery, near Alton. The Rev Jean Osborn.

BROOKS, Ivan H.

Final Rites Held For Ivan H. Brooks - Ivan H. Brooks, 51, of Marengo, died Monday at the Veterans Hospital in Louisville. He had been in ill health since January.

A son of Levi H. Brooks and Stella Brooks Chamberlin, he was born June 5, 1920. He married Mary Ann Heaton, of Indianapolis, in 1951. To this union, a daughter, Ada Lou, was born.

He was reared in Crawford County, where he spent most of his life. He was a World War 11 veteran and a member of the Marengo American Legion Post No. 84. He was employed and lived in Indianapolis for ten years before returning to Crawford County, where he served a veterans officer and county assessor. When he became ill, he was employed at the Indiana Census office in Jeffersonville.

Besides his wife, mother and daughter, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs Nadine Fullenwider, of Leavenworth, and Mrs Mildred Brandenburg, of New Albany, and a brother Joseph R. Brooks, of Leavenworth. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Robert, who lost his life in World War II.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Haverstock Funeral Home in Marengo. The Rev Ralph Miller, minister of Marengo United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was at Orchard Knob cemetery at Alton.

BROOKS, Bertha E. Died May 25, 1947, Alton, Indiana.

Alton - Bertha E. Brooks, 65, was born near Alton, January 11, 1882, and died May 25, 1947.

She married Hiram E. Brooks, February 4, 1902, and to this union six children were born, She is survived by her husband and the six children. Mrs Thelma Watson, of Decatur, Ill.; Albert Brooks, of Alton, Mrs Rosa Morris and Elmer Brooks, of Jacksonville, Ill.; Audry Brooks, of Nolomis, Ill.; a brother, Dan East, of Vincennes; 22 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Early in life she united with the Methodist Church. At the time of death, she was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Throughout her life she was a devoted wife, mother and loved her Lord and Church.

BURCH, William L. Died March 11, 2003

Funeral services for William L. Burch, 65, of New Albany, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday March 14, at Oak Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.

 He died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in English. He was a native of New Albany, a retired cable splicer for SBC -Ameritech Company and a volunteer for the Salvation Army. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and Silver Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, the former Helen L. Briles; two sons, William L. Burch, Georgetown and J. Scott Burch, New Albany; a daughter, Stacy L. Burch, New Albany; a brother, Charles C. Burch, Indianapolis; a sister, Betty A. Burch, Washington, D.C. and four grandchildren. 

Visitation at the funeral home will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, and after 9 a.m. Friday. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Silver Street United Methodist Church of the Salvation Army.]

Veteran of U. S. War with Spain Dies at 76  Marengo, Indiana

George C. Burrell, 76, a Spanish-American War Veteran, died yesterday at his home north of Marengo. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Monzelle Burrell; two sons, James R. Burrell, Eureka, Ill., and Harry W. Burrell, Delavan, Ill.; a brother, Samuel Burrell, Texas; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.  The body is at Green Funeral Home, Marengo.  The funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Liberty View Church.  Burial will be in Milltown Cemetery.

BURRELL, Leora Monzelle Rawlings  Died January 27, 1976  Milltown, Indiana.

Delavan: Mrs. Monzelle Burrell, 94, of Milltown, Ind., mother of Harry Burrell of Delavan, IL., died Jan. 27. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burrell and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burrell attended funeral services on Jan. 29.  Besides her son, Harry, Mrs. Burrell is survived eight grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and six great, great grandchildren.
