Huntingburg, IN. Sept.10,1898.
At a Republican county convention here today, the following nominations were made: Auditor, Lafayette Ellis, of Hall Township. Treasurer, Felix Achmeideo, Hall Township. Clerk, M.L. Borden, Jefferson Township. Sheriff, A.P. Beeler, Patoka Township. Recorder, F.J. Schnarr, Boone Township. Surveyor, Charles W. Ballard, Columbia Township. Coroner, Charles N. Simmons, Jefferson Township. Commissioner, 1st district, B.F. Langsford, Boone Township. 3rd district, George Frick, Jackson Township. The principal speaker of the day was W.S. Hunter, of Jasper.

Huntingburg, IN. Oct.12,1899.
Fire at Hillman, 18 miles northeast of Huntingburg, Tuesday, destroyed the sawmill, planing mill and wagon works of John & Andrew Garding, Harbison & Wagram’s General store, The Methodist Church and several dwellings. The loss is estimated at $10,000, with an insurance of about 1/3rd of that sum.

Frank L. Betz, deputy prosecuting attorney for Dubois county and law partner of Prosecuting Attorney Kerr Taylor, has brought suit for alander and asks for $5,000 damages from P.A. Guckes, a prominent business man of Jasper and coroner of Dubois County. He alleges in his complaint that Guckes publicly reported that he had stolen firewood from Gucke's house at Jasper. The accusation is said to have been induced by some investigation by the present grand jury in regard to gambling in Jasper.

William A. Taylor, of Dubois County was yesterday admitted to practice in the supreme court.

Mr. J. M. Deinderfer, auditor of Dubois County, is in the city on a wedding tour with his newly married wife.

Mr. Eli Allen to Hail township, died March 17th, at the advanced age of 90 years. He met with an accident last fall by falling from a fence to the ground, while carrying feed to some cattle from which he never recovered and finally caused his death.

Passenger train No. 2 east-bound, on the "Airline," was derailed at Goldthwait, a siding fifteen miles west of this city this afternoon. The train consisted of nine cars. The wreck was caused by the front tracks of the engine leaving the rails at a
switch frog. Two baggage, one combination car and two coaches went off; George Bush, the fireman, was fatally injured, the engine tender failing on him. Several others were slightiy injured.
