Didelot     NEW ALBANY TRIBUNE  ARTICLE – 04/19/2005

. Two people are dead in what police are calling a murder-suicide. According to Floyd County Police Chief Frank Loop, Edward L. Didelot, 60, shot his wife, Brenda J. Didelot, 58, and then killed himself. “It’s an open and shut case at this point,” Loop said. Floyd County Police received a 911 call at 8:58 p.m. on Sunday when Christopher Didelot, the couple’s son, stated that he had found his mother and father dead at their home at 6701 Country Trace Dr., in Georgetown. Loop said Edward Didelot had left several notes indicating the murder-suicide and problems between him and his wife. “Apparently they had some problems with each other,” Loop said. “There were some financial problems, but I don’t know exactly what.” Loop said Brenda Didelot was found in the master bedroom. He said Edward Didelot was found dead in the basement.  Loop suspects Edward Didelot shot his wife about two hours before she was found, and then Edward Didelot shot himself shortly before the 911 call was made. The couple’s son had discovered his mother’s body when, not long after, heard a gunshot. He said that’s when Christopher Didelot left the home and used a cellular telephone to call authorities. If there were problems with the couple, Loop said they were not known by neighbors. “They didn’t have any indication that there were problems,” Loop said. “Everyone is real surprised that this happened.” Loop said he doesn’t know how much other family members knew of the couple’s problems. “I don’t think that the family had any indication of this,” he said. “The troubles were kept within the family.” This was the first instance that police had been called to the home, according to Loop. He said there was no history of any police activity at the home.

. Alexander Eve Sr., 78, of 1747 East Elm Street, retired farmer and superintendent of the Floyd County Infirmary a third of a century ago, died at 1:35 o’clock Sunday afternoon at St. Edward’s Hospital of shock brought on by injuries suffered three hours before in an automobile accident. The victim was a passenger in a car driven by a grandson, Vincent Ott, 22, of RFD 3 Georgetown. The vehicle was involved in a collision with another, operated by Mrs. F. A. Schaefer, 42, of 1247 Beechwood Avenue, at East Eighth and Elm Streets, a dangerous intersection although there is an overhead flasher. Dr. C. E. Briscoe, acting Floyd County Coroner, who conducted an inquest at the hospital, said Mr. Eve received a crushed pelvis, a dislocated hip and internal injuries. The fatality, which placed the city’s 1941 traffic toll at one more than last year’s at this same time, occurred on the eve of installation of a large wooden traffic indicator on the Floyd County Courthouse lawn by the Lions Club. Questioned by police, Ott said he observed the boulevard stop on Elm Street, but that he did not see the Schaefer car approaching from the north in time to avoid the collision. The impact overturned the Ott vehicle. Other passengers in the Ott car were Mrs. William Ott, mother of the driver, and Carl Ott, another son. Surviving also are three sons, Alexander Eve Jr., New Albany, and Byron Eve and Arvel Eve, both of Floyds Knobs; one other daughter, Mrs. Robert Loweth, Floyds Knobs; a brother, Joseph Eve, New Albany; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
