This old prison was in Jeffersonville Indiana - Photo is dated 1910
- Greene County...
Proctor & Gamble is on that property now the old cemetery is
under the parking lot.
A researcher was able to get these prison records from the
archives.
We had two family members there. Father and Son - This is
the prison record on both.
1852 Merida Kesterson Sr
in Indiana State Prison
Meriday Kesterson Sr, occupation a Laborer was convicted of Grand
Larceny in Greene Co IN. He was to serve 2 years and was received at
the prison on September 30. He was discharged due to his death on March
5 1853. He died of dropsy at age 66. His description - 6'3/4" Tall,
light complexion, grey eyes and hair dark with a mixture of grey. The
prison records say he was born in South Carolina, (I doubt that
is true, we had no family from SC). He was "Intemperate". Remarks -
Face of an open and firm character, nose very long. Has a wife and one
child in Greene County near Black Creek; No education.
1852 Meriday Kesterson Jr
in Indiana State Prison
Merida Kesterson, Jr, occupation Laborer was convicted of Grand Larceny
in Greene County IN. Was to serve a term of 2 years and received at the
prison September 30 1852. He was discharged on 30 September 1854 by
expiration of sentence. Age 27. Merida Jr was 5" 10" Tall, Sandy
complexion, Hazel eyes and Hair Black. He gives his nativity as Ohio.
Remarks - A small scar on left arm, also one on right foot on instep
about 2 inches long; countenance open and scar on back of head 2 or 3
inches long. No education
