Harrison County was established December
1, 1808
and was the fourth county organized in Indiana.
Harrison County was taken out
of Knox and Clark Counties
Corydon is the County
seat and was once the Indiana State Capital.
On May 1 1813, the capital of the Indiana Territory was removed from
Vincennes to Corydon, and the original stone building used as the
Capital building still stands. Near this building, under an elm tree,
the first constitution of the State of Indiana was written.
Harrison County was named from William
Henry Harrison.
Harrison County is
divided into twelve
Civil Townships,
Blue River, Boone, Franklin, Harrison, Heth, Jackson,
Morgan, Posey, Spencer, Taylor, Washington and Webster.
Scott Township is now
included in Harrison County.
